Robert White Obituary

White, Robert "Bob"

October 25, 1947 - January 5, 2024

Robert "Bob" Swanson White, 76, of Dobson, NC peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home on Friday, January 5th, 2024 after being cared for at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on October 25, 1947 to the late Winfred and Catherine White. Bob was described by many who knew him as a humble, selfless, faithful servant, and a devout Christian.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sandy, brother Harry, son Jason and wife Kim, daughter Sara and husband Josh McMillen, five wonderful grandchildren Hunter, Chacie, Nolan, Mia, and Tripp and a host of loved cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and his sister, Pat Widdowson.

Bob attended Surry Central High School and later graduated from Mars Hill University. He served for ten years as the manager of Old Belt Farmers Co-op Tobacco Warehouse, taught and coached for Mars Hill High School and then at Dobson Elementary (eighth grade). Before retirement, he worked for Surry County Schools as a social worker while developing special relationships with teachers and school administration. He helped many troubled children find their way back to school by visiting their homes and assessing their needs. He felt he could never do enough to help the children of Surry County.

Bob was a member of Dobson First Baptist Church, where he worshipped, taught Sunday School, served many terms as a Deacon, and where he always found solace. He took great joy in his hobbies which included traveling with his wife, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, gardening, mowing, and walking and riding in his golf cart with his beloved dog, Jax.

A memorial service will be held at Dobson First Baptist Church on Monday, January 15th, 2024 in the Church Fellowship Center. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a service at 12 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions will be appreciated for the Dobson First Baptist Building Fund (PO Box 278, Dobson, NC 27017) in memory of Bob.

Please join us in remembering and celebrating the life of Bob White. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. The family would like to thank all those who have reached out to support them in these difficult times. Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson is serving the White family.
