Ruth Hine Cavenaugh

February 12, 1944 - April 3, 2025

Mrs. Ruth H. Cavenaugh, 81, of Kernersville passed away on April 3, 2025 surrounded by family at her home. Born in Forsyth County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Ruth (Newsom) Hine and wife of Harry Russell Cavenaugh.

Ruth was an incredibly loving woman to everyone she met. She showed the love of Jesus to everyone - friends, family, even people she just met. She was a loving wife, mother and nana. She also was a "bonus-mom" to many children, especially her nieces, nephews and her son-in-law. Despite her own health conditions and being riddled with pain, she cared for her husband even when he became bed-ridden. She was truly a "Proverbs 31" woman.

One of her favorite verses was Philippians 4:13 which reads, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength." She showed strength and fortitude. She lived the verse, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith," as found in 2 Timothy 4:7. She will be missed deeply but her family rejoices in knowing that she is in her Savior's arms.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Harry Russell Cavenaugh; her child, Charlotte Shelton (Michael); her grandchildren, Autumn Grace (Diego), Jonathan Braxton (Ashley), and Ada Estellee; her siblings, Gilbert Hine, Jr. (Olivia), David Hine (Fran), Dorcas Miller (Gene); her nieces and nephews, Eddie Hine (Tamara), Andrea Hine, Andrew Hine, Carla Silos, Dana Phillips, Sue Kipple, Keith Miller, and Eric Miller (Mary Beth).

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, William "Billy" Hine.

The family will receive friends at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Service, 213 W. Mountain Street, Kernersville NC 27284 on Tuesday, April 8th, 2025 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Friedland Moravian Church, 2750 Friedland Church Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27107 on Wednesday, April 9th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Friedland Moravian Church Cemetery, Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
