Ruth Rosenberg Obituary

ROSENBERG WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Ruth Lawson Rosenberg, 92, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2009. Ruth was born on July 31, 1917 in Pinnacle, N.C. to John P. and Savannah Turpin Lawson. Ruth grew up on a tobacco farm at the foot of Sauratown Mountain, the youngest of nine children. At 16 she attended Woman' s College of the University of N.C. in Greensboro for two years and then transferred to the University of N.C. Chapel Hill, graduating in 1937. She taught English for several years and then moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for the U.S. State Department for 10 years during World War II. In Washington she met her loving husband, Seymour, and they married and had two children, Ron and Sandra. She returned to her N.C. roots when the family moved to Winston-Salem in 1971. Ruth was devoted to her family and to her sisters, caring for several sisters throughout their lives. Her favorite hobby was golf and she played for many years and was a member of Pinebrook Country Club. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by seven sisters, including Mabel Smith, Lucy Ann Lawson, Lily Denny, Lela Harrison, Vera Hauser, Jewel Pell, Lucille Mitchell, and one brother June Lawson. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Seymour Rosenberg; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Cindy Rosenberg; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Christopher Leon, all of Winston-Salem; two grand-daughters, Rachel Rosenberg of Durham and Erica Rosenberg of Wilmington and two grandsons, Evan and Daniel Leon, both of Winston-Salem. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Vogler and Sons Funeral Home Reynolda Road Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either the "Alzheimer' s Association Western Carolina Chapter," 231 Melrose Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or the "Elizabeth and Tab Williams Adult Day Center" and mailed to Senior Services, 2895 Shorefair Dr., Winston-Salem, NC 27105 or emailed to seniorservicesinc.org.

I used to work at Brighton Gardens and Ruth was a delight to care for and spend time as she shared her memories about the past.My fondest memory was the video that Jay put together and the night the family shared it with us.

My heart goes out to your Family, I use to work at Brighton Gardens up to 2 years ago and Ruth was always a delight to be around, I spent 5 years around her and her Husband and Family were always so kind to us.
I stopped by there a couple months ago and she was in the hospital they said, I am so sorry I didn't get to see her , she was a favorite of mine...My prayers go out to you all...
