Stacy Mackie Obituary

MACKIE KERNERSVILLE - God gave him to us for a little while, but we understand He needs Stacy Rowan "Duck" Mackie, 35, who passed away Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008. He was born Nov. 13, 1972, in Forsyth County to Ronnie Loyd and Carla Weavil Mackie. Stacy was employed by Hall' s Grading Co. His main love and purpose in life was his Paw Paw. He loved his goats and he loved to shoot pool. Stacy was a very loving, caring and helpful man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Clarese Weavil; and paternal grandparents Kenneth and Betty Mackie. In addition to his parents, surviving are the most wonderful and loving girlfriend, Mitzi Christopher; four sisters, Tina Knight, a very special sister that loved him more than he knew, and husband Bryan; and Chantelle Doyle, Molly Gray and Heather Gray; his Paw Paw, Bun Weavil; an extra special niece and nephew, Lola and Matthew Knight; a niece and nephew, Caleb and Kiersten Doyle; and several cousins. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 6, 2008, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville, with Dr. Steven Ayers officiating. Burial will follow in Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family requests that friends share stories of Stacy during the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Brenner Children' s Hospital, WFUBMC, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC 27157, or ALSAC Saint Jude, Attn: Memorial Department, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

“I’ll lend you, for a little while, a child of mine.” He said, ”for you to love while he lives, and mourn when he is dead. It may be six or seven years, or even twenty-two or three. But will you, ‘till I call him back, take care of him for me? He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief, you’ll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.
“I cannot promise he will stay, as all from earth return, but there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn. I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true, and from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes, I have selected you. Now will you give him all your love-not think the labor vein? Nor hate me when I come to call to take him back again.
I fancied that I heard them say, ”Dear Lord, thy will be done’ for all the joy this child shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run. We’ll shower him with tenderness and love him while we may, and for the happiness we’ve known, forever grateful stay. Should the angels call for him much sooner than we planned, we’ll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.”

I met Duck many years ago over the CB radio. He offically named me "Neighbor" because we lived real close and could drown out all the "mud-ducks" trying to squeeze into our conversation. I knew Duck as a giving person, always ready at a moments notice to help any way he could. Although we have not talked much recently, he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and pray for Duck's girl friend to have a speedy recovery.

To each and everyone of you, my prayers and thoughts continue for all. Ronnie, Carla, my heart hurts for you. To have to give one of your babies up under such conditions. I can't and will not even try to imagine what it would be like. God does so many things that we can't understand at the time and someimes never understand. But we must remember He knows all. With my faith in this, I know if you let Him, He will see you through. Stacy was always a joy to be around and I will never forget his little blond head following his PawPaw around. Bun, I know what it is like to give up that "special" grandparent and it must be harder to give up a grandchild. I pray for your comfort and peace at this time. Tina, I haven't had to let go of a sibling, that also has to be so very hard. You have a special prayer going up also. God has another loving angel. But no one can take away any of the memories or the love in each of your hearts, or anyone else's for Stacy. This is how you can keep him alive here, till you meet again there. Each of you now have yet another, but very special angel to watch over you. If there is anything I can do for any one of you, please, please just call.
Terri
