Steve Calloway Obituary

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Steve Michael Calloway, 38, of Winston-Salem who passed away recently. Michael was born Dec. 2, 1966, in Forsyth County to Steve and Joanne Calloway. Michael was a graduate of North Forsyth High School and Guilford Technical Community College with a degree in aviation mechanics. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt. He was a devoted and loving father to Layla Monroe Calloway. He is also survived by his wife, Diana Jimenez, of Winston-Salem; parents Steve and Joanne Calloway of Winston-Salem; an aunt, Linda Flynn, of Kernersville; sisters, Sarah Pogue of Virginia Beach, Va., and Wendy Lindsey of Charlotte; a brother, Bobby Calloway, of Winston-Salem; and closest friend, Rodney Efler, of Danbury. Michael was a free spirit who lived life on his own terms. He loved his family, he loved his friends and he loved his daughter more than words could ever say. Michael was at his best when he and Layla were together. You will be in our hearts forever. We love you. Thank you for a lifetime of memories that we will always treasure. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 2, 2005, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park with full military honors provided by District 11 Memorial Guard. Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

I served in the Navy with Mike aboard the Theodore Roosevelt. He was a great friend and we had many memorable times. Mike was a light-hearted, fun person who lived life to the fullest and he kept us laughing and our spirits up on long deployments. I will miss my old buddy. He will be missed by many. I am very saddened by this news. My heart goes out to his family and his wife, Diana and his daughter Layla with such a great loss. Mike was one of kind and will never be forgotten.

Mike and I worked together in our teen years at Buger King. Although I lost contact with him soon after he joined the services, I never forgot him. He was a wonderful and sweet man and I am so glad I had the opportunity to meet him. I was saddened to read about his untimely passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
