KING - Tommy Ray Tuttle, 75, of 9449 Old Highway 52 in King passed away Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Coley Tuttle of the home; son Terry (Donna) Tuttle; and daughter Donna Tuttle-Olm. He is also survived by his beloved grandsons, Justin Tuttle and Jonathan Olm; a stepgranddaughter, Jennifer (Ronnie) Cecile; a sister, Mozelle Tuttle Boles; and a brother, Moyer Franklin "Sam" Tuttle. He also leaves behind his "bowling family" at Rural Hall Lanes; and special friends Jim Cathey and George East. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother James Eugene Tuttle, and sisters Ruby Westmoreland and Dorothy Kiser. He was born May 12, 1929, in Stokes County to William Sampson and Clemmie Elizabeth Tuttle. After serving in the U.S. Navy and farming, he went to work for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., where co-workers coaxed him into substituting in a bowling league. He was a "natural" in the sport and, with wife Virginia, built Rural Hall Bowling Lanes in Rural Hall in 1960. He later joined the ranks of the Professional Bowlers Association and became one of the top touring players, winning three national PBA titles. In 1995, he was inducted into the American Bowling Congress Hall of Fame for Superior Performance for his bowling accomplishments. Among his numerous accomplishments, he holds an ABC National Championship title and has also been inducted into the Central Piedmont and North Carolina Bowling Halls of Fame. Up until the time of his illness, Mr. Tuttle was an active participant on the PBA Senior Tour. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 this evening, Nov. 30, at Slate Funeral Home in King and other times at the home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, in the Slate Funeral Home Chapel, and a private graveside service will be held later in the day at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Walnut Cove. Flowers will be accepted; or memorials may be made to Hospice to Stokes County, P.O. Box 10, Danbury, NC 27016. The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Gallup, Dr. Hugh Wallace and the nursing staff at Forsyth Cancer Center for their care and support. Paw-Paw loved life and his family and he always made us laugh. He was a generous and kind man and he treasured all of the fond memories and friends made through the sport of bowling and his travels. He touched many lives and we will miss him. Great love lives on.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I have many memories of wonderful times at the bowling alley. Tommy was great. I remember him getting so tickled when he tried to help me with my bowling. I was a hopeless case. He will be dearly missed. All my love to the family.

I can not put into words the saddness that is in our hearts as we learned of the passing of Tommy Tuttle. My husband, Tyrone, has known this family for so many years through his bowling career. Tyrone introduced me to the Tuttle family. Mr. Tuttle will definitely be missed in the bowling centers. We will always remember him by his sweet smile, gentle laughter and the big hugs he gave everytime we saw him. Our hearts also go out to Donna, his daughter, our bowling teammate and to her family during this difficult time. It was an honor to know Tommy Tuttle and hear, and for Tyrone to witness, the great bowling accomplishments that he achieved. We love you Donna and your family! May God bless you and your family during this difficult time.
