Mr. Van Tyrone Lowery was born August 3, 1947, in Winston-Salem, NC, to the late Johnnie Johnson and Ernestine L. Lowery. He was a 1965 graduate of Atkins High School. Mr. Lowery was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served for 20 years. He served and later retired as a correctional officer with the Tennessee Correctional Center. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn. Mr. Lowery departed this life Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Trellis Supportive Care Center following a period of illness. He leaves cherished memories to brothers, William H. Lowery and Carlos R. (Joyce) Lowery; a sister, Beverly Johnson; a niece, Carla King; close friends, Samuel (Alice) Chestnut and Carolyn Hairston; two great-nieces, Jordan King and Jada King; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. Online condolences may be sent to www.hooperfuneralhome.net.
