Wilburn Speas Obituary

Wilburn Linzy Speas, 94, of Tobaccoville, N.C., passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus on Monday, July 21, 2025. Born September 19, 1930, in Forsyth County to Murphy Alphus and Ethel Key Speas, he was a man of strong faith. He was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Church in Tobaccoville. Wilburn proudly operated amphibious landing craft (DUKWs) in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Sara Lee (Hanes) Hosiery in 1986 after 36 years of service. He enjoyed his work travels, especially to Canada. Later in life, he danced to bluegrass music with pleasure.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sue Dell Brown; his brothers, Orlice and Kreisler Speas; and a niece, Sharon Brown. Those left to cherish his memory are four nephews, Keith Brown, Mark Speas, Rodney (Suzie) Speas, and Rick (Lesley) Speas; one niece, Judy Speas (Paul) Gerritson; a sister-in-law, Wanda Speas; and extended family.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Tabernacle Church Cemetery, with Dr. Rick Speas officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tabernacle Church Cemetery Fund, 4495 Kenleigh Forest Road, Tobaccoville, NC 27050.
