Mr. William Gray Gorham Sr. was born Feb. 6, 1934, in Washington, N.C., to Edward and Dora Guilford Gorham. He passed away Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was a faithful member of the Vocal Choir, Prayer Band Choir and a former member of the Deacon Board. He also lived in Durham and Charlotte, and in 1994 came to live in Winston-Salem until his passing. He went to Mecklenburg College in Charlotte. He also attended P.H. Jones High School and attended Bull City as a barber in Durham. He served in the military for eight years, and he retired from an overnight trucking company. He was a van driver for Independence Village and worked for Transit Authority and Guardsmart Security. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Gorham. He leaves to mourn him his loving, caring and devoted wife, Saundra Glover Gorham; and his children, Cary (Barbra) Cecil Glover of Winston-Salem, William Gorham Jr. (Lisa) of Chapel Hill, and Mary Ellen Sherrill (Edward) of Lithonia, Ga. He was father to Darryle Hayes (Felice) of Durham, Shonnetra Brunson (William) of Charlotte and Brenda Murray (Ronald) of Charlotte. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Domitic and Dimitri Glover, Ernest Sherrill, William Brunson Jr. and Isaiah Brunson and Taylor and Victoria Hayes; a brother, James Gorham (JoLinda) of Washington, N.C.; a sister, Lottie Gass (Beverly) of Charlotte; an aunt, Edna Bethea of Magnolia; four uncles, Rudolph Gorham (Edna) and John Gorham of Washington, N.C., Earl Thomas (Ruth) of Chocowinity, and Abraham Guilford, of Norfolk, Va.; two devoted cousins, Ada Cleveland of Charlotte and Linda Gorham of Washington, N.C.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and three special friends, Malcolm Little of Charlotte, Deacon James Lassitter and Deacon Robert Jackson. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Dwight Hash officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, at Salisbury National Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at the church. Sandra, I was sorry to hear of Williams passing. I first met him when he came to transit to work and he was a joy to work with and to be around. What a wonderful person he was. I WAS SADDEN TO HEAR OF THE DEATH OF WILLIAM. I HAD WENT TO VISIT HIM AND HAD FAITH THAT HE WAS GOING TO WALK OUT THAT HOSPITAL. BUT THAT WAS NOT SO. I FELT WILLIAM WAS SUCH A NICE, SWEET, WELL-DRESSED MAN. AND HE LOVED SANDRA SO MUCH AND I KNOW SHE LOVED HIM SO MUCH. HE WIL SURELY BE MISSED. PRAYERS AND LOVE TO THE ENTIRE GORHAM FAMILY.
