William Lunsford Obituary
June 10, 1946 - April 12, 2021
On April 12th, 2021, Bill Lunsford, of Pfafftown, ended his courageous fight against cancer and departed our world. As a young man, Bill was an accomplished swimmer and diver, earning a spot to compete at the AAU Nationals. At 18 Bill enlisted into the Navy and was assigned to the USS Richard E. Byrd. Bill was a natural storyteller, often times sharing memories of his time overseas or his motivation for a home project. Most notably was Bill's dedication to the people he loved. Bill was very talented; he could play any instrument and could turn anything into a piece of art. He worked for 30 years at Niblock and 10 years at B&G Foods before retiring.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Forrest; sister, Vicki Lunsford; and brother, Bobby Anderson. Bill is survived by his wife of 19 years, Debbie Lunsford; sister, Linda Robinson; brother, Charles "Buster" Lunsford; special cousins, Carol Sizemore and Sam Lunsford; 3 step-children, Emily Mendenhall, Michael Seamon, and Joseph Plitt; 3 grandchilden, Lucas, Evan, and Zoey; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends and loved ones. Bill, you will never be forgotten and your song will live on in us forever.
An outdoor celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 2nd at Two Feather Trading in King, NC. Online condolences may be made at https://www.cremationcarolina.com/.

I was a signalman on the Byrd reporting on it in the Fall of '66 a few months before Bill. Until I was transferred off it in the summer of '68 we spent a lot of time together. Going on liberty together in the Mediterranean or Norfolk or playing a lot of "Hearts" while in port on the bridge or up in the signal shack were all good times. He was one of the nicest guys and I was glad to have known him. He sure could draw. I'm sorry I never had contact with him after I was transferred. Again, a great shipmate. So sorry to hear of his passing.

Bill, you were a very special man. We will miss your silly humor, your talent but most of all your willingness to help anyone that needed it. I'm proud to have had you in our family. You will be missed more than you know.
