BARABOO, WI – Jean Elizabeth Smith, age 98, of Baraboo, Wisc., passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025 at Jefferson Meadows Nursing Home in Baraboo, Wisc.
She was born on March 14, 1927 in North Freedom, the daughter of William and Alice (Bayer) Smith.
Jean was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Ableman (Rock Springs), Wisc. After moving to Baraboo, she became a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo and remained a member for the rest of her life.
Jean was a 1945 graduate of Baraboo High School. She worked for a short time at the Sauk County Veterans Service office and for many years at John Hoppe and Associates Accounting firm.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by a brother, William. Survivors include two nieces and one nephew.
Funeral Services will be held today, Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Baraboo, Wisc., with Pastor Tim Kuske officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, North Freedom.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Baraboo. Baldwin Funeral Services is assisting the family.

My condolences to Jean's family. I am glad I was able to reconnect with Jean while my mom was at SCM. I first met her when she was a 4H leader and taught me to crochet. She was an amazing person and will be missed.

I always enjoyed sitting with Jean at the Circus Parade and being the commentator for her as units went by. Such a sweet lady who loved herself the bands!! She will be greatly missed.

My friend Jean has gone to heaven. I knew her well for 15 years or more and will miss visiting with her. Her health was failing as well as her eyesight and I know she will be happy in her new home.
