Marcella L. Kliner
Oct. 29, 1925 - May 12, 2024
PORTAGE – Marcella L. Kliner, age 98, of Portage, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2024. In union once again with her beloved husband, Paul.
Marcy was born on October 29, 1925, to Caroline and Eugene Fehrenbach, in Marshfield, WI. She attended St. John's Catholic School and graduated from Marshfield High School in 1943.
She worked as a Bookkeeper for the Marshfield Clinic until marrying Paul J. Kliner on September 24, 1949, at St. John's Catholic Church. The couple lived in seven cities in three states, having a son in each state, as Paul's career progressed with the J.C. Penney Company.
They became Portage residents in 1976 and stayed after retirement. Marcy was an active member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, singing in the choir, organizing funeral lunches and serving in many other capacities over the years. She was a skilled card player, especially Bridge, participating in many clubs and in later years enjoyed learning to play on-line. Enjoyed an occasional spin on the nickel slot machines, always coming home with winnings, or so she said.
An avid sports fan, she dressed all in Badger-red attire when attending games at Camp Randall; knew all the Packers by name and number; a diehard Cubs fan, for decades keeping score on yellow legal pads while watching the games, just as her dad had taught her.
Marcy is survived by sons: Dick (Sue) Kliner of Genesee, CO, and Greg (Tayanna) Kliner of Baraboo; daughter-in-law, Wanita Kliner of Marshfield; grandchildren: Tim Kliner of Marshfield, Jeff Kliner of Thomasville, NC, Julie Kliner of Hartford, Brandon Kliner of Austin, TX, Emily (Patrick) Zimmer of Evergreen, CO and Alison Kliner of Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren: Kinley Kliner of Austin, TX, Nora Zimmer of Evergreen, CO and Liam Zimmer of Evergreen, CO; other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; son, Tom; parents; two sisters; and a brother.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Portage, WI, on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with Fr. Randy Timmerman presiding. Inurnment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield, WI, on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 1:30 PM. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
An extra heartfelt thank you to Marcy's son, Greg, for his endless care of and support to both Marcy and Paul throughout the years. We appreciate you, and Mom and Dad were forever grateful.
