Scott Rataczak Obituary

Scott Thomas Rataczak

October 8, 1961 - May 25, 2025

Scott T. Rataczak, age 63, was born October 8th, 1961 and passed away on May 25th, 2025, peacefully in his sleep. This is painfully ironic, because anyone that knew Scott would tell you he was anything but peaceful. He was never afraid to give you a piece of his mind though, if he thought you needed to hear it.

Yes, he was quite the story teller. So great in fact, that you were likely to hear the same story from him more than once; whether you wanted to hear it or not. His favorite stories to tell were about his four children, who were the pride of his life.

Scott was a truck driver for many years. Semi or dump truck, emergency vehicle of any kind; he could drive anywhere or around anything with his eyes closed. He loved working on cars, riding motorcycles, and was a huge history buff. His wife and children have many (not so) fond memories of having to watch some special on the History Channel or sitting to 'compete' against him on Jeopardy (spoiler alert, he always won). He and his wife Patty were approaching forty years of marriage in the fall. Together, they enjoyed camping all summer and spending time with family. They all loved playing cards together and sharing laughs over a few drinks. One thing that was never lacking with him, was laughter.

Scott never left anyone wondering how he felt. He was bold, hilarious, and fiercely loyal. Beneath that tough exterior was a man who loved his people deeply and made sure they always knew it.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Patty; his children, Melissa (Tanner), Michael (Courtney), Mitchell (Gena), and Shaun (Morgan); his five granddaughters, Mia, Rue, Remi, Kinslee, and Vesta; and his soon-to-arrive first grandson. His siblings, Rolly (Mary), Larry (Kay), and Lynette, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who felt more like family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Russ and Arlene; his brother, Russ (whom he is undoubtedly already bickering with); his nieces, Cortney and Traci; and his nephew, Neil.

Scott may be gone from this world, but the stories, the laughter, and the love he shared will live on. He was one of a kind. The family requests you gather with them on Sunday, June 22nd from 12 to 4 p.m. for a celebration of life at the Cambria Fire Department, 702 Elizabeth Street in Cambria, WI.

Scott was like a family member. He could walk right into our house anytime, without even knocking. And I.
Could do the same at his house. We had many good times together. I will miss him dearly.

Scott and I grew up together. I remember when he got a red pedal fire truck, he really loved it. Going with him to Mr. and Mrs. Wrights greenhouse. And more recently, talking with him a couple of times a week. I'm so thankful we kept in touch. Our last conversation just days before his passing, we discussed how great it was growing up in a time when the community truly did help raise children. Scott will be greatly missed.
