Meyer, Walter "Joe"
WAUPUN - Walter "Joe" Meyer, 84, of Akron, OH passed away on Jan. 11, 2022.
Walter was born in New Ulm, Minn. on April 16, 1937 to the late Walter and Esther (Tappe) Meyer. Walter was raised in Waupun, Wis. and was a self-made man, earning his associates degree in computer technology and later a bachelor's degree in computer science. His career in computer science and technology spanned five decades. Through the Lakewood Co-Ed group he met his wife of 43 years, Barb, as well as many treasured friends. He enjoyed music and sports with his children and grandchildren, volunteering through Kiwanis, Brecksville Human Services, Meals on Wheels, and remained active in his Lutheran congregations.
Walter is survived by his son, Andrew Joseph Meyer and daughter-in-law, Kathryn; grandchildren, William, Joseph and Claire, who called him "Pop-Pop"; brother, John (Marilyn) Meyer; sister, Mary (John) Nicolai; sister-in-law, Anita Meyer; brother-in-law, Robert (Joan) Moses he was Godfather to their children RJ Moses and Elizabeth Caddell; many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara, who passed in 2018; and his brother, Jim.
A private graveside inurnment was held. A celebration of Walter's life with family and friends will occur this Spring.
