William Devine Obituary

William G. "Bill" Devine

December 10, 1951 - May 25, 2024

PORTAGE/TOWN OF PACIFIC – William G. "Bill" Devine, age 72, of Pacific Township passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison.

Bill was born in Portage, WI, on December 10, 1951, the son of Daniel and Rita (McMahon) Devine.

Bill (aka "Bully") spent his entire life in Portage, beginning his education at St. Mary's Catholic School and finishing at Portage Senior High in 1970. He married Cynthia Sue (Mork) Lohr on September 7, 1985.

Bill and his wife Cindy raised two wonderful daughters, Stephanie (Michael) Blankenheim and Amy Jane Craig (Dustin Sweeney). He was also blessed with two grandsons, Trennen and Chael.

Bill was a self-made man who started his construction career at age 18, ultimately establishing his own successful business, Devine Inc. He firmly believed in community service, being a member of the City of Portage Police and Fire Commission for 12 years and serving on the Pacific Town Board for 24 years. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, many sports including baseball, skiing (he was a member of the Cascade Mountain Ski Patrol and a WEC instructor), football, and basketball (he was an avid Badger fan).

He and Cindy loved to travel, making many new friends everywhere they went. They enjoyed trips to Ixtapa, Mexico; traveled to Rome, Venice, and Florence Italy; Punta Cana; St. Thomas; and many other destinations. The last few years Bill and Cindy spent winter months RV camping in Arizona, which was quite an adventure.

Along with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, Bill is survived by his siblings: Pat Devine La Brant, Dick (Vicky) Devine, Tom (Patty) Devine, and Su (Bill) Disch; sisters-in-law, Wendy (Russell) Zick and Susan Mork; other relatives, and many friends. Bill will be missed by everyone, including his dog, Beau.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Howard La Brant and Jay Mork; and father and mother-in-law, George and Carol Mork.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 10, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Trapper's Turn Golf Club, 2955 Wisconsin Dells Parkway, Wisconsin Dells, with a service of remembrance at 6:30 p.m. with Chaplain Tom Drury officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Columbia County Humane Society.

The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, hospice team, and staff at St. Mary's Hospital.

He was such a good man.
