Wilmer A. (Machovec) McCoic
November 17, 1934 - August 22, 2025
The only child of Adolph and Helen A. (Sebranek) Machovec, Wilmer was born November 17, 1934, in Richland Center, Wisc. He grew up at the home farm near Yuba, Wisc.
Wilmer passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025.
In High School, Wilmer was very active in sports and was elected Homecoming King in 1951. Growing up he loved going to dances on Saturday nights in Yuba and Hillsboro and continued to love to dance, especially polka and line dancing, throughout his life. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1952. Over the years, we heard many stories of the adventures he had with good friends George Kelbel, Kenneth Sebranek, and Wilmer Holak. He loved working the family farm with his parents and hunting with his father. He was a devoted son who cared for his mother to her death at the age of 99.
He moved to Janesville, Wisc., in 1961, as many did in the area, to work at the General Motors plant. He also attended school for a degree in Accounting and joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard, Red Arrow Division. Just as he got started working in accounting, he was called up for active duty during the Berlin Crisis where he was part of the 32nd Infantry Division stationed in Fort Lewis, Wash.
When he returned home, he was hired by the City of Janesville as an Accountant and worked there for the next 18 years.
It was in Janesville where Wilmer met and married Kathleen Casey in 1962 and they had four children: Linda, Michael, Mitchell and ten years later, their youngest daughter, Krista, was born on Christmas Day.
They moved the family back to the home farm near Yuba in 1980. Eventually, Wilmer and Kathleen went their separate ways.
Wilmer moved to Mauston where he was an active member of the Mauston Moose Lodge and held several roles within the group over the 20 years that he was a member. He continued to attend dances as often as he could. He also loved collecting things and bargaining on a sale.
In his later years, he enjoyed the company of the Amish community. He was a driver for them and would go on extended trips sometimes to different states. He had a deep interest in the Amish life and culture, enjoying the meals and conversation. He admired their way of life – hardworking, resourceful and simple.
Wilmer loved to host and attend family gatherings. He also loved to play euchre and was an excellent player, typically winning the family euchre tournaments, and was still actively playing.
Wilmer is survived by his children, Linda Sebranek (Greg Nelson), Michael McCoic, Mitchell (Kristie) McCoic, and Krista McCoic; seven grandchildren, Mitchell (Kyra) Sebranek, Ethan (Amber) Sebranek, Max (Danica) Sebranek, Madeline McCoic (Zach), Jake McCoic, Casey McCoic and Ryan McCoic; six great grandchildren, Watson, Parker, Rhett, Lennie, Bennett, and Duke. He is also survived by two aunts, Margie Slama and Carmen Haugh; his former wife, Kathleen Casey; and former son-in-law, Scott Sebranek.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Helen Machovec, as well as many extended family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life which will be held at the Hillsboro Firemen's Community Center, Hillsboro, Wisc., on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a short service at 11:15 a.m., followed by a luncheon.
