Laura Getsinger Obituary

Getsinger, Laura B.

Laura B. Getsinger, 98, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away on January 23, 2014 at the House of the Dove in Marshfield, WI.

Services will be at 1:30 P.M. on Monday, January 27th at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Martin Baur will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 A.M. until the time of services on Monday at the church.

Laura was born in Pittsville on March 21, 1915, the daughter of Clarence and Elvie (Hutchins) Favell. She was a graduate of Pittsville High School.

Before her marriage, Laura was a telephone operator for the Bell Telephone System. Laura was united in marriage to Leonard Getsinger on November 4, 1933 in Winona, MN at St. Mark's Parish. After their marriage, they resided in the town of Cranmoor as owners of the Lester Cranberry Company until her husband's death in 1972. After Leonard's death their son, Richard, and his wife, Selma took over Lester Cranberry Company, with Laura remaining on the board of directors.

Laura was a long time member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids, a member of the VFW Auxiliary and an honorary member of the Lowell Center. She also was a member of the Cranmoor homemakers for many years, and had done some volunteer work which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Laura was a devoted mother and grandmother. She enjoyed music, family gatherings, playing cards, bridge, reading, and watching the Brewers and Packers.

Survivors include her four children: Carrie (Ralph) Tritz, Pittsville; Richard (Selma) Getsinger, Wisconsin Rapids; Joyce Getsinger, Wisconsin Rapids; Victor (Linda) Getsinger, Phoenix, AZ; nineteen grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Getsinger, daughter, Alice Schroeder, her parents, Clarence and Elvie Favell, brothers, Kenneth and George Favell, sister, Clara Adams, son-in-law, Richard Schroeder and brother-in-law, William Adams.

Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center is assisting the family with arrangements.

I don't believe I ever met Laura Belle, but my grandmother - Clarice Pabst (1908-2007) - was her cousin (her mother Maude Favell was Clarence's sister). She spoke of Laura often, and I knew they were dear friends. I'm sorry for your loss. Your family is in my thoughts.

Carrie, Dick, Joyce & Vic,
So sorry to hear of your mother's passing. My mom, Clarice, spoke of her so often and so fondly. They were very close in spirit, and even looked a lot like sisters. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of loss and sorrow.
