William Stephens Obituary
William "Bill" J. Stephens, age 68 of Eau Claire, WI passed away on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls.
Bill was born in Marshfield, WI on May 2nd, 1946 to Frank Stephens and Dorothy (Meyers) Stephens. Dorothy was later remarried and Bill was raised by Earl Pegelow, who raised him as his own son.
Bill attended Wisconsin Rapids area schools, before joining the U.S. Army in 1963. He served in various capacities before being discharged with a disability, in 1978. Bill occupied his time volunteering with various Chippewa Valley organizations over the years, including: Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Optimist Club, and Easter Seals.
On December 27, 1969, Bill married Sherrie Bartz with whom he had three children.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sherrie; two children, Bobbi Jo (Dale) Edberg, Robert Stephens; and three grandchildren, Lexa, Sadie, and Kiara.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Earl; sisters, Laura and Margaret; and his eldest daughter, Ann.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Smith Funeral Chapel with Pastor George Olinske officiating. Family and friends who wish to leave online condolences may do so at www.smithfuneralec.com.

I remember Bill's sense of humor...being Santa and later I joined him as Mrs.Clause...we saw smiles, felt hugs from so many less fortunate children. My husband was a man of humor too...I can only imagine what those two spirits are doing up there to get our attention. The years go by, but memories remain here in our hearts.

We did not know of Bill's passing. We found out on the computer after no one could give us info at the Vets Home. We are so sorry. We had pictures made of him with our family etc when we played Easter Bunny and Santa. We will never forget Bill...He was one of our first friends after we moved back home to Wisconsin. Getting us our Christmas Tree when we couldn't afford one. Sherrie, we are so very sorry! Ron had gotten to see him awhile back but we had so many things/deaths in our family going on that we just never got back. God Bless You! Please ask Smiths for our phone no. if you don't have it. We would love to see you sometime. HUGS!!!
