Alan Littrell Obituary

ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mr. Alan B. Littrell 89 a longtime resident of St. Johnsville, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025, at the St. Johnsville Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, following a long illness. Alan was born in Plattsburgh, NY on April 9, 1935, the son of the late Roland and Gretchen Quick Littrell. He was a graduate of the California University System with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1955 to 1964. Later he worked for the Air Force as a civilian employee. On May 29, 1993, he married the former Diane Burkdorf who survives. He was a faithful member of St Johnsville Catholic Church, where he enjoyed being a reader at services as well as Chairman of the church for six years, and was very active in all the fund raising and other events; the Morris J. Edwards American Legion Post # 168, serving as Past Commander and a member of the St. Johnsville Chamber of Commerce. He also enjoyed attending church at St. John's Reformed Church with his wife, Diane. Alan enjoyed hunting, gardening, and golfing, riding motorcycle, 4 wheeling and listening to Frank Sinatra, Big Bands and Golden Oldies. Alan was not a cat lover until he met Minnie and Micki, his 2 black cats. Alan is survived by his loving family, his wife Diane, children, Kathleen Russell, Tonawanda, Christy Kohl, Warsaw, NY; Alan (Kate) Nelson, Niagara Falls; Jeff (Dana) Nelson, Michigan; Paul (Lynn) Burkdorf, and Randall (Corinne) Burkdorf, both of St. Johnsville, daughter in law, Lisa Nelson, West Virginia, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren sister, Dawn Hanifin, Ft. Plain; brother, Jackson Littrell, Oregon; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his good friend Sam Licari. He was predeceased by a son, James Nelson, sisters, Lynette Schuler, Patricia Baker and brother, Roland Littrell Jr. A Graveside service will be held in the spring at Ft. Plain Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St. St. Johnsville. There are no calling hours. Memorial Contributions in Alan's memory may be made to the St. Johnsville Catholic Church, c/o Linda Terricola, 196 Smith Road Amsterdam, NY 12010. Arrangements are with Enea, Ciaccia, & Applegate Funeral Directors (518) 568-2300. This obituary will appear on the funeral home website at www.eneafamily.com on the Internet.

Dear Lord,

We come to You in reverence and sorrow, lifting up the soul of Your faithful servant, Alan B. Littrell. We thank You for the life he lived-a life of devotion, service, and love. He gave generously to his country, to his church, to his family, and to all who were blessed to know him.

Lord, we ask that You welcome Alan into the arms of Your eternal light, where pain is no more, and peace is everlasting. May he find joy reunited with loved ones, and may his spirit forever shine through the lives of those he touched.

To Diane and the entire Littrell and Burkdorf family, please accept our deepest sympathies. May God wrap you in comfort as you mourn the loss of such a remarkable man. May you feel His presence in the quiet moments, His strength in the difficult ones, and His love through the memories that will never fade.

Alan´s faith, laughter, and legacy will live on in every story told, every good deed done, and every heart he inspired. He will always be a part of us all-a shining thread woven into the fabric of God´s great family.
