Alfonso Pearson Obituary
UTICA - Alfonso Pearson passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service that will forever live in the hearts of his family and friends. His life was one marked by faith, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. Born on October 1, 1949, in Utica, New York, Alfonso was the cherished son of the late Willie James and Lonnie Bell (Bowens) Pearson. As one of 14 children in the close-knit Pearson family, Alfonso's childhood was filled with the values of resilience, loyalty, and faith. The bonds he formed with his siblings shaped him into the dependable, caring, and joyful man that so many came to know and admire. Educated in the Utica school system, Alfonso quickly became known for his sharp wit, easy smile, and ability to make friends wherever he went. From his earliest years, he displayed the humor and joy that would define him throughout his life. Whether in the classroom, on the playground, or later in his career, Alfonso's lighthearted spirit and heart of gold made him a natural source of encouragement to others. Alfonso furthered his education at Wittenberg University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Spanish and a Master's degree in Electronics. His pursuit of higher learning reflected both his discipline and his determination to broaden his horizons, equipping him with skills and knowledge that enriched his professional journey and personal life. On September 14, 1974, he united in marriage to Elizabeth (Hobdy) Pearson, with whom he shared nearly five decades of cherished companionship and enduring respect. A man of dedication and perseverance, Alfonso built a long and respected career with BellSouth Telecommunications as an Electronics Frameman. He was admired for his strong work ethic and the kindness he extended to everyone he encountered. Known for his natural wit and humor, he brought joy to colleagues and customers alike, often becoming a source of encouragement for those around him. After many years of service, Alfonso retired from BellSouth with the same dignity and respect that defined his work throughout his life. Affectionately known as "Ali" to family, friends, and neighbors, Alfonso was a man whose presence could never be overlooked. He carried within him a heart of gold and a spirit that radiated joy, making him someone everyone could rely on in moments of need. With a natural gift for humor, he had the rare ability to turn ordinary days into memorable ones-his laughter, quick wit, and playful stories brought light even to the heaviest of hearts. He was the soul of family gatherings, the friend who could be counted on for both wisdom and laughter, and the brother who made each sibling feel uniquely cherished. But beyond his humor and charm was a man of depth-devoted, resilient, and rooted in faith. Alfonso's generosity extended far beyond words; he gave of himself freely, whether through encouragement, guidance, or simply showing up when others needed him most. He embodied loyalty and compassion, and to know him was to feel safe, supported, and seen. To his family, Alfonso was more than a son, brother, husband, or uncle-he was a source of strength and comfort, a living reminder of what it means to love unconditionally. His legacy of laughter and kindness will live on not only in stories retold but also in the countless lives he touched with his unwavering friendship and grace. Alfonso grew up in Hope Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where his faith was nurtured from a young age. As a child and young man, he was active in the life of the church, serving on the Steward Board alongside his grandfather and on the Usher Board, and his love for music shone through as a member of "The Choraliers." Alfonso enjoyed many simple pleasures in life, but his interests were as vibrant as his personality. He proudly participated in the Magnificent Yankee Drum and Bugle Corps, where his love of music and performance shined. He also found joy in skateboarding, playing softball, and lending his voice to family quartets, creating moments of harmony that his loved ones deeply cherished. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Pearson; his loving siblings, Charles Pearson, Booker (Priscilla) Pearson, Josephine (Jay) Asbell, John Edward (Geneva) Pearson, Gloria (James) Harris, Audrey Pearson, Arthur (Victoria) Pearson, William Fitzgerald Pearson, and Thomas (Deborah) Pearson; his beloved goddaughter, Tatiyana Turner; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who adored their "Uncle Al." He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie James and Lonnie Bell Pearson; his siblings, Rev. Lonnie Mae Pugh, Christopher Pearson, Margaret La'Von Pearson, and Lee Andrew Pearson; and his special sister-in-law, Jeanine Pearson. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the love, prayers, and support offered during this time. Alfonso "Ali" Pearson lived a life filled with faith, laughter, and love. His heart of gold, infectious humor, and compassionate spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Though his earthly journey has ended, his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched.
