Anna Linney Obituary

FORT PLAIN – With deep sadness, we announce that Miss Anna May Linney, age 95, peacefully passed into the arms of the Lord on October 11th, 2025, always surrounded by her loving family.

Born on July 15th, 1930, in the Richfield Springs area, Anna May was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Nannie Ruth (Bush) Linney. She was a proud graduate of the Fort Plain schools, where she laid the foundation for a life marked by kindness and dedication.

Anna May is preceded in death by her beloved parents and her dear brothers: Harold, William, and Robert Linney, as well as her sister-in-law, Lillian (Keba) Linney. She also mourned the loss of two nephews, Joseph and Michael Linney, and her niece, Amy (Linney) Daley of Schenectady, New York.

A tireless worker, Anna May devoted many years to Nelson’s Laundry before continuing her journey through life at establishments such as the Fort Plain Luxury and Snyder’s Bicycle Shop in Little Falls, NY. She eventually found a fulfilling position with Life Saver’s in Canajoharie, NY, from which she retired with gratitude.

Anna May was an active member of the Fort Plain Methodist Church, where her spirit shone brightly through her participation in the choir. She lovingly arranged flowers for Sunday services and special occasions, bringing beauty and joy to her community. Alongside her fellow congregation members, she contributed to numerous rummage sales and dinners, creating lasting memories for all involved.

Her commitment extended beyond her church, as she was also a devoted member of the Fort Plain Chapter of the Eastern Star. Together with her fellow members, she celebrated love and friendship through weddings, dinners, and countless joyous gatherings.

Anna May leaves behind a loving family of nieces and nephews, including Ellen Merenberg of Schenectady, Elaine Linney of Herkimer, Pamela (Linney) Gauthier and her husband, Jeff, of Mohawk, and Robert Linney and his wife, Ileen, of St. Johnsville. She also cherished her grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, including Ashlee, Jack, and Krista Linney from North Carolina, Eric Bayes (wife Megan) and their family of children, Aiden & Parker from Concord, MA, Andrew Gauthier of Little Falls, NY, Caitlin Gauthier (Jake) and their family of children, Charlette, Cayson, and Cameron from Ilion, NY, Greg Gage and his family of children, Evelyn & Asa from Caroga Lake, NY, Kayla Linney (Chris Smith) and their son Bentley from Oxford, NC, and Robert Linney, Jr. (Angela Farda) from New Hartford, NY, along with several cousins.

To her family, Anna May was not just an aunt; she was a second mother and grandmother, spreading love and warmth throughout their lives. She had lived with Pam and Jeff for several years, and her presence at family gatherings was a source of joy; she attended every graduation, wedding, and birthday celebration with enthusiasm. Anna May had a wonderful sense of humor and often reminded everyone of her approaching birthday, suggesting delightful cookouts filled with music to celebrate her special day. Her love for music and singing brought happiness to those around her.

A graveside funeral service honoring Anna May will take place on Saturday, November 1st, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Fort Plain Cemetery on Clyde Street. This will be followed by a memorial gathering at the home of Pam and Jeff Gauthier, located at 1352 Travis Road in Mohawk, New York.

Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Valley Residential Assisted Living in East Herkimer, as well as to Bassett Healthcare in Little Falls and Cooperstown. We also thank Valley Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Herkimer for their compassionate care in her later years, along with the wonderful team at Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, especially Kevin, for their support during this difficult time.
