Bernabe Rosado Obituary
Bernabe Arismendi Rosado Alfonso (Benny/Bernie) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernabe Arismendi Rosado Alfonso on August 21, 2025, age 67.
In 2020, Benny was diagnosed with cancer. Chemo kept the cancer at bay for five years. He was a physically and mentally strong man. Throughout the last five years, Benny pushed to live life as usual. Unfortunately, as of earlier this month, the cancer could not be controlled.
Benny was born in the Dominican Republic. The family moved to the United States in the early '70s when he was a teenager and settled in the Bronx. Benny had a career with the Carpenters' Union and Asplundh Tree Expert Company, which he retired from in 2018. When he had a family of his own, he moved them to Dutchess County, New York, where he lived in Wappingers Falls and later in Poughkeepsie. More recently, he and his wife, Holly, moved to Chenango County, New York, where a full view of the sunset graces the property every evening. Benny's skill, hard work, vision, and incredible physical strength transformed the property into what his wife refers to as "a slice of heaven." Benny is survived by his wife, Holly; his four children Candi (Joe) Dominguez, Nate (Heather) Rosado, Isaac Rosado, Raymond Medina; step-son Matthew Shaw; his mother Maria Rosado; his mother-in-law Joyce McCaffery; his grandchildren Hannah Dominguez, Ava Dominguez, Destiny (Matthew) Donohue, Christian Rosado, Makai Rosado, Juliana Rosado, Jacob Rosado; great grandchildren Jonathan Donohue, Carmen Donohue and Claire Donohue; two sisters Raquel Garcia, Helen (Eddie) Garcia; three brothers Luis (America) Rosado, Cesar (Maria) Rosado, Elias Rosado; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Benny is predeceased by his father, Rafael Arismendi Rosado; his sister-in-law, Juanita Rosado; and his sister-in-law, Jacqueline Pearce Burger. Benny was always about "work" and in motion and productive. At the beginning of the day, he would say, "I have work to do." And at the end of the day, he would say, "Well, at least I got some work done today." He started "working" when he was four years old in his uncle's clothing factory in the Dominican Republic, assembling boxes. He did not forget a face and noticed every detail about his surroundings as well as about the people around him. In addition, he was in a constant mode of evaluating his surroundings and how things "should" be. "They should have..." is a phrase he used regularly. He "should have" been an efficiency expert/inspector/investigator. Benny was creative and resourceful. He usually had in his "inventory" anything he needed to create or fix anything. His hands and mind would magically manifest the vision - especially for the grandchildren. His inventory also included every recreational and fun activity his grandchildren would enjoy. He was most happy when the family would gather together. Holly would like to thank the Rosado Family for their incredible and unlimited love and support that made it possible for her to get through Benny's last days. The care that Benny received from Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County was incredible. They not only provided excellent care for Benny, but also abundant support for Holly.
As Benny wished, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at McHoul Funeral Home, 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, New York, on August 30, 2025, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County. Please send donations to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County, Department DN, 33-39 Court Street, Norwich, New York 13815.
