Camille Morath Obituary

ILION – Camille Morath, age 86, passed away peacefully, at a care home near her daughter's house in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, on June 1, 2024, after a brief illness. Born on December 9, 1937, in the borough of Bronx, New York, Camille was the cherished middle child of the late Joseph and Maria Louise (Gentile) Visconti. Her parents passed onto her a strong sense of Italian American heritage, which she embraced with pride throughout her life. On June 13, 1959, she married the late Attorney Thomas R. Morath, an Ilion native, at St. Clare's Church, in Bronx, New York. They relocated to Lakeville, Pennsylvania, in 1998, where they lived until his passing on December 22, 2005. Camille was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Diane; her parents; her husband; and her brother, Nicholas. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Ellizabeth Andrea (Steven); her granddaughter, Caroline Frances; her sister, Immaculatta (Thomas); and numerous nieces and nephews, who will carry forward her legacy. Camille's devotion to education was an integral part of her life. As an elementary school teacher in the New York City Public School System, for over 30 years, she worked to instill a sense of curiosity and love of learning in her students. Camille earned her Doctorate in Education from Iona College, in New Rochelle, New York. As a grandmother, she helped foster that same love for her granddaughter, Caroline Frances, teaching her how to read at a very early age and always offering a hand with her assignments. Beyond her professional achievements, Camille's vibrant spirit was evident in her cherished moments with family and friends. She regularly entertained loved ones with tales of her family's rich history and fond memories of her Italian American upbringing, in the Bronx. One of her most cherished adventures was a 30-day cruise around Northern Europe with her dear friend, Isa Rosensweet. Funeral Services to celebrate Camille's life will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Mount Olivet Cemetery, in Frankfort, New York. This service will be a casketed remains interment ceremony honoring Camille's final resting place next to her husband and daughter. There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are under the compassionate direction of the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road (old Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort). My dearest friend will be sorely missed. She was a wonderful mother, grandma and teacher. Proud of her Italian heritage and outspoken. Her daughter Liz is a devoted daughter as is Steven, Camille´s devoted son in law. And Caroline, her granddaughter who was the light of her life.
