Diane Canter Obituary

Diane G. Canter Marcy, NY Diane G. Canter, 92, of Marcy, passed away peacefully at Wynn Hospital on Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on February 18, 1933, in Utica a daughter of the late Walter and Agnes (Blair) Gee. She was a 1950 graduate of St. Francis de sales School in Utica where she was president of her class. She continued her education at St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing graduation in 1953. She was immensely proud of the fact that she attended every Class reunion up until 2024. On May 7, 1955, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Utica she was united in marriage to Charles F. Canter, a blessed union of 49 years, Mr. Canter passed away in 2004. She was employed with St. Elizabeth's Hospital as a registered Nurse retiring after 50 years of dedicated service. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Whitesboro, also the Tiger Lilly quilting group, making quilted items for Nursing Home residents, Veterans and New Mothers. In her free time, she enjoyed Quilting and reading. Mostly she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her adored children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends for her warmth, love, and kindness. She is survived by her children, Kathleen (Peter) Ognibene, Diane (Dr. Steven) Hotaling, Anne (Tom) Bastian, Timothy (Jana) Canter, Melissa (Michael) Gauger and Matthew (Tanya) Canter, also a daughter-in-law, Maribeth Canter. She leaves her adored grandchildren, William, Charles and Jennifer Canter, Daniel, Michael and Brian Hotaling, Michelle Canter, Heather Comito, Joshua (Ana) Bastian, Shannon (Devin) Ringler, Christina Pisano, and Rachel Gauger. She leaves her sister's-in-law, Katie Graff, and Holly Canter, also many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, Charles G. Canter and Frank G. Canter, also a daughter Mary Agnes Canter, and a sister Marlene Letner. The family would like to thank the Maynard Fire Dept and EMS Services, Wynn Hospital ER Staff, Special Care, ICU and 8 West Nursing Staff. Your countless gestures of kindness and empathy will always be remembered. Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 9:30 AM at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Whitesboro with the Rev. John Canorro officiating. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday October 9, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 40 Main St. Whitesboro.
