Dorothy Huntley Obituary
Dorothy F. Egan Huntley, 85, of Oneida, NY, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, after a brief stay at Wynn Hospital in Utica, NY. Born August 19, 1939, in Utica, she was a daughter of the late Francis K. and Margaret (Suppe) Egan. She was raised on a dairy farm in Augusta, NY, and in 1957 she graduated from Oriskany Falls High School. On November 25, 1961, Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert L. Huntley in Clinton, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years.
A resident of the Oneida area since 1961, Dorothy was a member of the Spirit of Hope Catholic Parish, attending St. Patrick's Church. She loved and supported her family, always showing pride in their accomplishments and putting others' needs before her own. She was a devoted stay-at-home mother when her children were young. She volunteered her time and talents in numerous ways, leading a 4-H club and Cub Scouts, selling daffodils for the American Cancer Society, helping the Red Cross, and delivering Meals on Wheels. She took on leadership roles in the parent-teacher organization at her children's schools. When her children were older, she worked outside the home as a clerk at the Oneida Savings Bank for 18 years, retiring in 1999. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, gardening, and stamp collecting. In recent years, she continued serving the community by knitting hundreds of hats, which she donated to churches, schools, and libraries in the local area.
Surviving besides her loving husband, Bob; are her three children, Michael (Karen) Huntley, of Severna Park, MD, Mary Ann Huntley, of Ithaca, NY, and David Huntley (Connie Winkler), of Philadelphia, PA; five grandchildren, Kevin Huntley, Brian (Caitlin) Huntley, Scott Huntley, Samuel Swartz, and Stella Swartz; and a great-grandson, Theodore Huntley; three sisters, Carol Leuenberger, of Vernon, Nancy Gangloff, of Buffalo, and Ellen Guernsey, of Whitesboro; a sister-in-law, Joan Egan, of Vernon; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by a brother, James Egan; a nephew, Mark Egan; and three brothers-in-law, Roy Leuenberger, James Gangloff II, and Thomas Guernsey.
Dorothy's family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at the Wynn Hospital for their kindness, care, and compassion shown during her stay.
