Dwain Klatt Obituary
E. UTICA - On Sunday, July 7, 2024, Dwain C. Klatt's unforeseen passing occurred in the comfort and dignity of his home at the age of 65.
Dwain was born in Santa Clara, CA on May 2, 1959, to the late Ogden and Juanita Mae (Button) Klatt. He also knew the love and guidance of his father, Craig Snedeker. Dwain's formative years were spent in California where he attended Adrian C. Wilcox High School, graduating with the class of 1977. He went on to study Culinary Arts at The Culinary Institute of America which played a part in his successful livelihood.
At one time, Dwain was married to the former Lisa Taverne, and from that union came the blessing of their two children. Dwain was a loving and hands-on father who, along with his daughter Charlotte, learned how to bake. He also shared his cooking skills with her.
Dwain held employment at Big Apple Music in the car detailing portion of the business, as well as being a qualified salesman. During his time there, Dwain became close with the Bolos Boys, who became longtime friends and of trusted importance in his life.
Dwain established himself as a self-employed entrepreneur, operating several businesses over the course of his career. His first venture was owning and operating The BBQ King in Barneveld and currently Southern Comfort BBQ and Catering in New Hartford. Dwain was fortunate to have been offering his services right up until this past Saturday. He was independent and proficient at his events, as well as providing daily lunches and dinners. Dwain's patrons loved his food, personality, and spirit. A true altruist at heart, any leftover food was donated to those in need. His worldly thinking and positive energy made for a unique soul, and gifted businessman.
Dwain got a sense of enjoyment each day by simply making food for those he loved. He was always inviting others to join him for a meal and felt a sense of gratitude for all the people in his life. He amassed many good recipes throughout his lifetime, in part due to his fondness for trying new things.
In his spare time and for a little peace and quiet, Dwain enjoyed fishing or just being out in nature. Once he was revitalized, he could be found at the bowling alley where he was able to meet many new faces who would ultimately become his friends.
Dwain knew there was a higher power who was present and guided his life.
Dwain is survived by his dad, Craig and his wife Diane. He shared a close bond with his children, Stacy Dwillis, Ryan C. Klatt, and Charlotte Dauback and her husband Robert. Also surviving are several grandchildren, including Skyler, and Riley; Alexandria Klatt; and Deklin Dauback, who was his buddy and partner in crime. He is also survived by his siblings, Danielle, Dawn, and Drew; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Jeff Cole was Dwain's best friend, who he shared so much in common with. He also shared a close friendship with Jacqui Passalacqua.
In memory of Dwain, please share a meal with those close to your heart. A special thank you to his son-in-law, Robert, who was of great assistance to the entire family, as he was the one to find Dwain at final rest in his home.
Fond memories and messages of encouragement are welcome to be shared on Dwain's tribute wall.
