Elaine Ann Maurer MacDougall, resident of Islamorada, Florida, (previously Oneida, New York), entered into eternal life on May 10, 2025, at the age of 77.
Born on August 27, 1947, in Rome, New York, Elaine was the daughter of Fred and Mary (Murphy) Maurer and a 1965 graduate of Rome Free Academy. Elaine was united in marriage to the love of her life, John Michael MacDougall, in December of 1979. Throughout their blessed and amazing thirty-four years together, they built a loving family, a thriving business, and enjoyed adventuring together, frequently to their favorite place, Islamorada, Florida. Elaine was a constant source of support to her husband as they grew their company, Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes, from one store in 1980 to the 80-plus stores in operation at the time of her husband's death in 2014. Elaine was committed to her family, a caring, constant force in her life. She was generous with her time and energies, always there to lend a helping hand. Elaine loved crocheting and made it her goal to make blankets for any baby she knew. She was an amazing cook, an avid reader and a "champion" card and Rummikub player. Elaine was a cherished friend and a generous member of her community.
Elaine lived her final days in the Oneida Extended Care Facility, Oneida, New York. She was tirelessly watched over with the friendship, kindness, and compassion of her faithful caregivers, Mandy Moot, Nancy Annis, Doreen Northway and Liz Cooper alongside the entire staff of OECF. Elaine's family will be forever grateful for their love and support. Elaine was preceded in death by her mother and father, Fred, and Mary Maurer, two brothers, Frederick (Evelyn) Maurer, and William (Charlotte) Maurer, and her daughter, Sherry A Snyder. Elaine is survived by her three children: Deborah Ostrander (Robert Raymond), of Islamorada, Florida, Jennifer Park-Chapman (Chris Chapman), of Washington, DC, and Michael MacDougall (Laura Love), of Kingsport, TN; six grandchildren: Jeffrey (Kelly) Ostrander, Zachary Snyder, Sabrina Snyder Buss (Alan Buss), Rachel Park, Daniel MacDougall, and Seth MacDougall; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Tristan; and a host of extended family and friends.
