Gail Gorczynski Obituary

Gail Rosbrook Gorczynski, of New Hartford, NY, passed away surrounded by the love of her family after a long illness. She was born in Utica, the daughter of Walter and Genevieve (Burke) Rosbrook. Gail attended high school at St. Francis de Sales and graduated from Utica Free Academy. She attended Utica College, where she pursued her passion for helping others. She dedicated her career as a medical social worker, both at St. Elizabeth's and St. Luke's Hospital, where her compassion and care touched countless lives. On July 3, 1971, Gail married the love of her life, Daniel Gorczynski, at St. Francis Church. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around faith, family, and community. A devoted member of St. Thomas Church in New Hartford, Gail also enjoyed her time with the Red Hat Society, volunteering for the New Hartford Public Library and participating in her book club. She had a gift for making everyone feel seen and valued, whether through a kind word, a shared story, an infamous greeting card or a simple smile. She loved spending summers at her camp on Lebanon Reservoir, doing puzzles, watching the Golden Girls, and most importantly spending time with her family, usually with a tray of homemade deviled eggs in tow. Gail is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Gorczynski; her son, Tom Gorczynski and his wife Melissa; her daughter, Julie Gorczynski; her cherished grandchildren, Emily and Abby; and her dog Stella. She also leaves her sisters, Mary Mondi (John), Anne Lewis (Bob) and Carol Jones (Bill); sister-in-law, Janice Rosbrook; and many other beloved family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Bill Rosbrook; her cousin, Bernie Humphrey, and her niece, Laura Lewis, who was also her god daughter. I am so sorry to hear that the world has lost such a wonderful woman. I worked closely with Gail on the pediatric and maternity units, and she taught me so much about caring for families. She was the definition of an amazing social worker: caring, compassionate, and connected. Through the years, she helped countless families in small but meaningful ways. Know that I pass on the many of the words of wisdom and stories she shared with my social work students as examples of what a social worker should strive to.

Gail was a selfless woman, ,who always put the needs of her patients first. She was a pleasure to work with, and made great deviled eggs too.
Her death is a loss to the healthcare community.

So many years, rather decades later, reading Gail Gorczynski's name and remembering her ,brings me a sense of calm & joy.
Long , long ago, I worked in CPS/Foster Care . If I had a child or family in medical crisis or abused ..whether regular work hours or Emergency Duty..... I'd be so relieved to find Gail working or on call. I knew she'd immediately know what was needed. She never disappointed or dropped the ball. If I needed coordination within the hospital , Gail got it done. If I needed a report from her and the ER doctor, it was done ASAP. When I called, she always answered . She was a rare gem in a chaotic, stressful yet helping time. I am grateful,Gail, you chose social work as your life's work.

My condolences to Gail's family and friends. Peace to Gail & all.
