Jennie Jones Obituary
UTICA – Jennie R. (Salatino) Jones passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the age of 95.
Born in Utica on August 16, 1930, Jennie was the daughter of the late Anthony "Tony" and Rose M. (Pendolf) Salatino. She was raised and educated locally and remained forever proud of her Utica roots.
On January 8, 1949, Jennie was united in marriage with Sherman F. Jones, Sr. They were a loving and devoted couple, perfectly matched and full of joy. Together, they enjoyed traveling, dancing, and-during their younger years-even roller skating. They shared over 44 wonderful years of marriage prior to Sherman's passing on November 29, 1993.
Jennie began her working career at the former New York Bakery on Liberty Street. After its closing, she continued in the field by managing a bakery department. She later joined the Utica City School District, where she worked as a monitor for special needs children-a role she found deeply rewarding. Never one to be idle, Jennie eventually joined Price Chopper in New Hartford, where she became affectionately known as the "Super Sampler" Supervisor. Beloved by customers and coworkers alike-whom she greeted each day with her radiant smile-she retired after many years of dedicated service. Jennie excelled in every role she undertook, always bringing enthusiasm and heart to her work.
A devout matriarch, Jennie believed her most important role was to love, nurture, and guide her family. Her life revolved around her beautiful family, and she absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a rock for many-a leader, a dear friend, and a steady shoulder to lean on in times of need.
Jennie loved playing bingo, especially at the former Sons of Italy, where she spent many enjoyable evenings. Some of her most cherished memories were made at her son's camps in Old Forge, surrounded by family and nature. She also found great joy in visiting the Turning Stone Casino to try her luck at the slot machines. At home, Jennie loved cooking and took pride in sharing her cherished recipes with her family. A dedicated sports fan, she rooted faithfully for the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Chiefs. She especially treasured the beauty and solace of sitting on the deck, surrounded by loved ones, with her many loyal canine companions always by her side. Jennie was of the Catholic faith.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Taurisano (the late Joseph F. "Joe" Taurisano), and Mary Ann Peck (the late William H. "Bill" "Mr. P." Peck); sons and daughters-in-law, Sherman F., Jr. and Donna (Foresti) Jones, and Michael A. and Kelly (McNally) Jones; her grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as their Nonnie, Christie L. and Timothy M. Aarons, Frank A. Taurisano, Miranda and Billy Katalinas; and Brandon Jones; great-grandchildren, Mitchell Aarons; Matthew Jones, Giada Jones; Gianna Gonzalez, and the Katalinas' children; and her sister, Dolores Citriniti (the late husband John A. Citriniti, Sr.), with whom she shared a special closeness. Jennie treasured the memories of her siblings and their spouses who preceded her, Angela Marie and Peter Caruso, Vincent J. and Mary Jane (Sacco) Salatino, Rose and Joseph A. Joseph, Anna Marie Salatino, and her infant sister Anna Salatino. She was additionally predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph M. and Sandy Salatino; as well as her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Homer, Sr. and Elva (Brower) Jones. Jennie leaves behind her many loving canine companions who brought her constant joy and comfort.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Turay, Alexandra, and the rehabilitation center of the Eastern Star Home, for their compassion and kindness.
A Memorial Gathering in Jennie's honor will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Jennie's Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
