John Matulewicz Obituary
LOWVILLE- John W. "Jack" Matulewicz, 91, of Ridge Road, passed away on Wednesday January 1, 2025 at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville.
A funeral Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday January 9, 2025 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Lowville with Rev. John Ojuok, Parochial Vicar, officiating. A luncheon will follow the Mass at St. Peter's fellowship hall, all are welcome. Spring burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, New Bremen. Calling hours are from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday January 8, 2025 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's name to St. Peter's Catholic Church, 5457 Shady Ave., Lowville, NY 13367 or to Lewis County Search and Rescue, 7782 West State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Clara of more than 65 years; three children, Jane Hills of Croghan, Andy (Cathy) Matulewicz of Penn Yann, Walter Matulewicz of Lowville; a son-in-law, Greg Buckingham of Queensbury; five grandchildren, Casey Matulewicz, Courtney Matulewicz, Noah Buckingham, Jacob Buckingham, and Luke Buckingham; a great-grandson Tucker John Allison; three step-grandchildren, Stephanie, Justin and Brittany; a sister, Mary (Albert) Kraeger of Constableville; his in-laws, Clem (Wilma) Bush, Bernard (Barbara) Bush; nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Rita Matulewicz Buckingham; a daughter-in-law, Debora Matulewicz; and a son-in-law, Philip Hills.
Jack was born on November 1, 1933 in Constableville, NY, a son of the late John A. and Teresa Konzal Matulewicz. He worked on the family farm and graduated from Constableville High School in 1951. Jack worked for Lyons Falls GLF and at Snow Ridge Ski Area before his service. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 8, 1954 and served until his honorable discharge on November 7, 1957. After his service, he worked at the Dadville Tree Nursery. On June 6, 1959, he married Clara E. Bush at St. Peter's Church, New Bremen with Rev. Pancratius Halstrom officiating. Jack did carpentry work with Tiger Lee and then went to work at AMF first as a laborer and later as Traffic Manager until 1975. Together with his wife, Jack owned and operated Matulewicz Produce, starting part-time in 1965 and becoming full-time in 1975, until November 1998, upon their retirement.
Jack was a communicant of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Lowville. He served on the Town of Lowville Planning Board and Town of Lowville Board of Assessment and Review. He enjoyed flea markets, antiques and farm events.
