Margaret Splain Obituary

CICERO-Margaret G. Splain 81, formerly of Hagan Circle, Oneida, died Wednesday, August 27, 2025, surrounded and in the presence of her loving and caring family at The Cottages, where she had been a resident of the past five weeks. Born in Oneida, on February 25, 1944, she was the daughter of William Robert and Vera Honyoust Carpenter. A lifelong resident of this area, Margaret was a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School. She married Joseph R. Splain in the Church of St. Therese, Munnsville, on February 19, 1966. Mr. Splain died on September 15, 2009. Prior to her retirement, Margaret was employed with Oneida Indian Nation as a public relations consultant and previously was employed as a caseworker with the Madison County Department of Social Services. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneida and a member of the Turtle Clan of the Oneida Indian Nation. She had a great love of shopping, travel, going out with her friends and family and especially being with her grandchildren. Surviving are her daughter, Linda (Chris) Lyon of Blossvale; her two sons, Timothy B. (Melani) Splain of Ashville, North Carolina and Thomas M. (Kristin) Splain of Webster; her grandchildren, Christopher, Gregory, Brad, Cody, Matthew, Jacob and Tyler and her great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Audrey and Andrew; her sisters, Betty Kline of Oneida and Roberta Chapman of Munnsville; her brothers, Brian (Sue) Chapman of Ohio and Gary (Marla) Chapman of Syracuse; her step-sister, Patricia Zaleski of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary "Cindy" Garcia and a brother, Leslie Carpenter. The family would like to thank the staff at The Cottages for their care and compassion shown to Margaret and her family during her final days. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Newton and the Oneida Indian Nation Health Services staff for all of the care given to Margaret during the last several years. Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida. Interment will be made in Glenwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 11AM to 1PM, prior to the funeral service. Contributions may be made to Wanderer's Rest Humane Association, P O Box 535, Canastota, NY 13032 or the Alzhiemer's Association, 5015 Campuswood Drive, East Syracuse, NY 13057.

I met Margaret when we were in forth grade together and that started our lifelong friendship. She was the sweetest lady on earth. My sympathy to her family and friends. She will always be remembered.
