Mark Lowery Obituary

Mark Perrin Lowery, Jr. passed away peacefully at Rome Hospital on Friday, May 31st, 2024, due to pneumonia and other related health complications. He was born on January 21st, 1969, in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina to Mark Perrin Lowrey and Sarah Elizabeth Pope Lowrey. Mark grew up in the Canal Zone in Panamá and at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York where his father was assigned. As a small child, Markie was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. The Special Education programs offered through the DOD Schools in Panamá afforded Mark great opportunities for therapy and development. Despite many health challenges, he had a very happy childhood while living in these places with his family. His mother and father were extraordinarily adventurous people and Markie was able to see and do many wonderful things in beautiful environs as a child. His parents always found a way for Markie, despite his condition, to be included in their adventures. He traveled and experienced much happiness during this time. His mother was a musician and Markie benefitted from that joyful, musical world. Mark had an intrepid, impish nature and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved all the sensory pleasures of life-food, light, music, the wind in his face and above all, the rattle of his Fisher Price keys. He was gentle and kind, tender and dear. He made the world a better place with his presence in it. All who know him can attest to his having had a powerful and positive impact on their lives. One of our fondest memories is of him walking into a restaurant, seeing hot, steaming sausages sitting on someone's plate and promptly removing them for his own benefit. The kind soul who had had his sausages stolen remarked, "I think he needed them more than I did." This is not for want of food. Mark, just like his father, always looked for the opportunity in every situation. But he will forever be known as our beloved "sausage stealer". He could move with lightning speed and if he saw something he wanted, he was going to get to it regardless of your efforts to prevent it. Mark also loved to play tricks on people. He was famous for turning out the lights. Markie was an aficionado of classical music and sang along with great glee. His vocalizations were a joy to listen to. He had a delightful laugh, a twinkle in his eye and a joie d' vivre that brought everyone much happiness. Seeing Markie in the hallway jingling his Fisher Price keys is a favorite memory of the staff at Ullmann where he has been the recipient of their care for many years. Many staff at both Ullmann and United Caring Partners have become his dearly beloved and extended family. Markie was preceded in death by his father, Mark, in 2017 and his mother, Sarah, in 2021. Mark is also remembered with the deepest love and fondness by his sisters and their respective families: Katherine and Elizabeth. Katherine's husband, Peter Henninger along with their daughters, Mary Kate Copeland, and Meaghan Elizabeth Henninger-all of Katy, TX, will truly miss their brother-in-law and uncle. He is remembered dearly by his sister, Elizabeth, and her family: Brother-in-law Edward Dolan of Brooksville, Florida and their children Julia McCoy Dolan of Katy, Texas and Edward James Dolan of Spring Hill, Florida. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 16, from 1-4 PM at Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral and Cremation Services, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Ullmann IRA or to Upstate Caring Partners of New York. Mark was the recipient of their loving care for many years. The family wishes to thank the staff and providers of Ullmann IRA of Stittville, New York for all the care and compassion shown to Mark for many years. Mark was such a sweet and funny person. He had a great sense of humor and the cutest smirk and giggle when he was being mischievous. My favorite memories of him all revolve around singing to him and the way he would stop shaking his keys and just smile at me while I sang. He really did make my day. But my most favorite memory is the day he hugged me. I know we weren´t supposed to have favorites but it was hard not to with him. He will truly be missed.
