Mary Raiti Obituary
In Loving Memory
Mary Lynn Holtsbery Raiti
September 26, 1936 - March 13, 2025
Central Square, NY - Mary Lynn Holtsbery Raiti, born on 26 September 1936 and most recently a resident of Central Square, NY, left this world for a better one unexpectedly on 13 March 2025.
Mary Lynn was born in Syracuse, NY, the second of DeRayne and Helyn Holtsbery's five children, where she attended school at St. John the Evangelist. She met and married Francesco Raiti (the result of a setup by Mary Lynn's friend, Phyllis, and Frank's cousin, Peter) and they had 5 children together. Through the years, Mary Lynn worked at RJ Kopp in North Syracuse and in the family business at Redfield Cheese in Redfield, NY. She also was a teaching assistant in both the elementary and high schools at Camden Central where she made many lifelong friends. While living in Osceola the couple enjoyed snowmobiling and sailing. After retirement she and Frank traveled across the country in their camper. They enjoyed membership in the Escapees RV Club and visiting friends and family as they traveled with their small dog, Muffin.
A devout Catholic, Mary Lynn was a loving wife and mother to her five children. Family celebrations were very important to her and she entertained with gusto, baking dozens of cookies at Christmas and fixing elaborate holiday meals for several generations of family members. Her family never knew what boxed macaroni and cheese tasted like because all her meals were wholesome and made from scratch. Always creative, she taught herself to sew as a new mother and began quilting when she lived in Osceola. She gathered a group of quilters around her who still meet regularly and who will miss her enormously. In 2019 Mary Lynn and Frank joined the SummerHill community, leaving behind their Tug Hill winters and too large home in Osceola. There, Mary Lynn found comfort in her parish at Divine Mercy and in her new friends and shuffleboard team mates. She will be remembered for her kindness and her thoughtful gifts of handmade creations.
Mary Lynn is survived by her brothers, Donald Holtsbery, Richard (Elizabeth) Holtsbery, her children, Holly (Tom) Scott, Joe (Becky) Raiti, Frank (Jennifer) Raiti and Chris (Claudia) Raiti; her 11 grandchildren: Dan (Anna) Consiglio, Nicole Consiglio, Michael (Katelyn) Raiti, Erica (Michael) Rakala, Elizabeth Scott, Reuben Raiti, Anthony Raiti, Thomas Scott, Marissa (Jacob) Brown, Frank Raiti and Nicholas Raiti, 2 great-grandchildren: Hazel and Lyra Consiglio, and many nieces and nephews. Also, her dear friends, the Lovelies: Betty Hamner, Judy Misch and Connie Lundrigan. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Francesco Raiti, a son, Michael Raiti, as well as her brothers R. Kent Holtsbery and Jon D. Holtsbery.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025 from Divine Mercy Parish, 592 South Main Street, Central Square, NY. Following Mass there will be a luncheon at the church. Interment will take place at 2:45 p.m. in St. John's Cemetery, Camden, NY.
