Michael J. Wyant Sr.

A Wyant has lived in North America since before the creation of the United States. For our family, that history began when Johann Jacob Weyandt arrived from Germany in 1727. That ancestor watched the rise of the American Revolution and passed away in Maryland in 1809. Later, one of his Southern relatives would join the Union against the Confederacy. And even later, William J. Wyant would join the Allies in World War II as part of the Army 2nd Maintenance Battalion. He'd get injured, almost die, and serve at the Battle of the Bulge, at least according to the few stories we have from his three sons: William "Bud" Wyant, Peter "Pete" Wyant, and Michael "Mike" Wyant. On April 4, 2025, the last of those sons passed away. Michael "Mike" Wyant (Senior) died asleep in the driver's seat of his Volkswagen with the windows down and a warm breeze on his face. Mike loved cars with a passion that left most of his kids in a continued state of bewilderment. He found joy in model building with his daughter, Katie, when he could, barbecuing when he couldn't, and dreaming about traveling to places he never quite had a chance to see. We hope he gets to see those places now. He is survived by his four children: son Mike (Amy) Wyant Jr., daughter Nichole (Emma) Wyant, daughter Kaitlyn Wyant, son Ryan Wyant, stepdaughter Jennifer Santilli, stepson Christopher Santilli, and his niece Amy Wyant. He leaves behind ten grandchildren. Mike disliked funerals, so there will be a short one (1) hour showing at the Ironside Funeral Home in Oneida on Sunday April 13th between 3-4pm. The family will also be hosting a larger celebration of life sometime between late-May to mid-June.
