Mike King

Morris James Michael (Mike) King, a veteran of the United States Army, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026 in Cooperstown, New York. Mike was 76. A native Virginian, he was born to James Cleo (Jimmy) King and Joyce Curran King on September 7, 1949. He graduated from Hargrave Military Academy in 1968. Mike served as a State Farm Insurance agent for 35 years. Mike is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Meg) and 22 children – James (Crandall), Andrew (Mollie), Irina (Ian), Claire (Jared), Sara-Grace, Natalie (Brad), Jessica (Jessica), AnaStacia (Don), Christina (Jacob), Victoria (Michael), Mary, Molly, Anna (Joshua), Mark, Jack (Shey), Mariah (Tyler), Rachael (Dakotah), Rebecca, Maddox, Sawyer, Maiya, and Yana (Luis). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren - Courtney, Arian, Etta, Cadeus, Gaius, Tiberius, Brayden, Katya, Nikolai, Marina, Roy Michael, Maverick, and Maximus. In addition, he is survived by his sisters Linda Gayle and Diane. He was preceded in death by his parents. An avid adventurer, Mike made 7 trips to Russia adopting 16 children. Alone he brought home triplets on one trip and an infant another. Venturing to Uzbekistan twice he returned once with a toddler and again with an infant. Finally he traveled to Vietnam bringing home a baby girl and baby boy. Mike enjoyed fishing, antiquing, flying and reading, but his passion was his love of his family. He would do anything or go anywhere for Meg and his children. With his passing the world has lost a man of great heart and humor. A celebration of Mike's life will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Zion Episcopal Church, 158 East Main St., Morris, NY 13808. The family will greet friends after the service in the Zion Parish Hall for a reception. Burial will be this spring at Hopeful Baptist Church Cemetery in Montpelier, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Episcopal Church. Mike's family has entrusted his care to Edd Stanimer of the Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home in Morris.
