Norma Lamb Obituary
Norma Lamb, 95, passed away peacefully at home in Eaton, NY., surrounded by her family, on Sunday, August 3, 2025.
Born November 30, 1929, in Johnson City, NY, Norma was the daughter of Carlton and Lueena (Titus) Houck. Her family moved to Hamilton, NY when she was in fifth grade. They lived on the Colgate University campus, where she and her brothers grew up exploring the grounds and skiing to school in winter. Norma met the love of her life, Keith Lamb, when she was just 10 years old. They became high school sweethearts and were married in 1950, beginning a lifelong partnership. Together, they loved exploring the hidden roads and quiet streams of Madison County-often with a picnic packed for the ride.
Norma was a woman of many talents, deeply engaged in both artistic and community life. She and Keith, while working together at Lamb's Feed Service in Hamilton, NY, lovingly restored a historic home, which they transformed into a Bed & Breakfast and tearoom. She was a founding member of the Village Artists and Craftsmen organization and helped establish the Americana Village Craft Fair.
A dedicated community member, Norma served on numerous local boards over the years, including the Girl Scouts, Madison County Tourism, Madison Hall, and the Hamilton Club. She was also a lifelong bridge player, participating in the same bridge club for decades.
Norma had a love of crafts and fabric arts, and what began as a knack for sewing grew into a love for quilting. She owned a quilt shop and became active in several quilting guilds across New York State. She eventually served as President of the New York Quilters Consortium, which later honored her for her service. Her bright, abstract quilts were shown in exhibitions throughout the state, including Quilts=Art=Quilts at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY.
Norma's greatest devotion was always to her family. She loved spending time on craft projects with her daughters, creating festive gatherings for every holiday, and treasured countless hours of antics and games with her grandson. Some of her happiest moments were family trips to the Adirondacks-especially Long Lake and Speculator-as well as time at Anstruther Lake in Ontario. She was always prepared with an inventive menu and a plan for fun and games, where evenings often ended with a spirited game of cards, ensuring every gathering was filled with laughter and lasting memories.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 75 years, Keith Lamb of Eaton, NY; her daughters Donna Lamb of Auburn, NY, and Liza Lamb (Don Carr) of Manlius, NY; and her grandson, Evan Lamb Carr of Cambridge, MA. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law Beatrice Little and Denise Houck, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Carlton (Denise) Houck and Kenneth (Emma) Houck, sister-in-law Phyllis (Gene) Hanson, Brother-in-laws, Gene (Ann) Lamb, Darwin (Marian) Lamb, Alan "Tom" (Lee) Lamb, Louis (Betty) Lamb, Richard (Pat) Lamb and Llewellyn Jr. (Agnes) Lamb.
A celebration of Norma's life will be held at a later date.
