Patricia Holcomb Obituary

Patricia M. Holcomb, 84 of Hamilton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Crouse Community Center on Monday, September 1, 2025. Born July 27, 1941 on the family farm in South Hamilton, to John C. and Nancy (Alderman) Browning, she was the oldest of seven children and graduated from Sherburne High School in 1958. She married Robert E. Holcomb on July 23, 1960 in St. Mary's Church, Hamilton. Their union lasted just shy of 58 years until his passing in May of 2018. They raised five children together and "Pat" spent her time raising her family and always putting others first. She was never afraid of hard work, and her strong work ethic was evident in the many places she worked throughout Hamilton. Her jobs included the Bluebird Restaurant, the Colgate Inn, and later, ownership of the Nautilus Sub Shop from 1987 to 1995. After that, she worked in the bakery at Grand Union and at Mr. Ed's before becoming the head cook at Sigma Chi Fraternity at Colgate University. Anyone who knew Pat knew that she deeply loved her family. After retiring, she devoted her time to her grandchildren's activities, which ranged from classroom, sporting, and musical events to helping Danny on and off the school bus. If she wasn't with her family, Pat often used her cooking skills to support fundraising events for Fountain Fire Co. #1. Her tireless contributions earned her an Honorary Membership to Fountain Fire Co. #1 of the Hamilton Fire Department. She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Robert and Lynn Holcomb, David and Jody Holcomb, Richard and Karen Holcomb and Karen and Jason Murray all of Hamilton, and Deborah and John Miles of Fairport. Grandchildren, Blaine Holcomb, Rachel Holcomb and her partner Jon Wilson, Meghan Holcomb and her partner Nick Gott, Ethan Holcomb and his partner Kylie Phillips, Bradley Holcomb, Daniel Murray, Abigail Holcomb and Maddison Miles. Great grandchildren Daniel Gott and Charlie Wilson. She is also survived by her brothers John (Christine) Browning, Robert "Dud" Browning of Hubbardsville and a sister Nancy Taranto of Kansas. Brother-in-Laws Ed Riley and Ang Taranto and Sister-in-Laws Judi Browning and Sharon Poissant, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Nancy Browning, brother William Browning, sisters Eleanor Riley and Nora Giordano, as well as her sister-in-law Ronna Browning, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Phyllis Onoff, granddaughter Alysha Nicole Holcomb and nephew Scott Giordano. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, September 5 from 10:00am-11:30am at the Corner Stone Baptist Church Hamilton, NY, followed by a funeral service at 11:30am. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hamilton, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Fountain Fire Co. #1, 121 Lebanon St., Hamilton, NY 13346 or to Pathfinder Village, 3 Chenango Road, Edmeston, NY 13335.
