Send FlowersMOHAWK - Mr. Richard L. Quackenbush, age 89, passed peacefully in the early morning of Sunday, October 12, 2025, after a long decline due to Alzheimer's disease. A resident of Mohawk, New York, Richard was a patient at Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville, New York at the time of his passing.
Born January 9, 1936, Richard was the son of Henry and Marguerite (Schoonmaker) Quackenbush of Herkimer. A graduate of Herkimer High School, Richard spent most of his career working in the family business, Quackenbush Auto Parts and Electric, formerly on Caroline Street in Herkimer. His later working years, up until his retirement, were with Advance Auto Parts, also in Herkimer.
Richard married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Hardish, daughter of Harry and Susan (Keblish) Hardish of Herkimer, on March 2, 1957. They were together for 47 years until Dorothy’s passing on February 1, 2005.
Richard enjoyed being his own handyman, performing repairs and improvements both at the family home in Mohawk and their summer home on Canadarago Lake. He was an avid fan of movies, particularly Westerns and action films. His musical tastes ranged from country to 50s-60s rock and R&B.
He is predeceased by his parents and wife, and survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Susan (McMurray) Quackenbush of Rochester, New York, as well as by his longtime companion, Gail Griffin of Richfield Springs.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
