Robert Sayles Obituary

Robert J. "Bob" Sayles, 53, of 4185 Sholtz Rd., Oneida, passed away on Monday evening, March 10, 2025, at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Pennsylvania. He was born on January 29, 1972, in New Hartford, NY, the son of Ralph G. and Maria (Ottaviano) Sayles. Bob was a top ten graduate of the 1990 class of Oneida High School where he was a standout basketball and baseball player. Bob received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Notre Dame, class of 1994. While at ND, he was a proud resident of Morrissey Manor. He received his master's degree in business administration from Regis University. On November 9, 1996, Bob was united in marriage to Angeline Bottini in St. Joseph's Church. Bob was the Director of Management Information Services for Evidence Based Associates where he took great pride in the mission of the company. He was previously employed as an auditor at Ernst and Young, worked in the Internal Audit, Finance, and Distribution Management department of Oneida Limited, and was the former director of IT and Accounting of Liberty Resources. He was a member of Spirit of Hope Parish attending St. Patrick's Church. He was a former member of the Oneida City School District Board of Education from 2007-2012 and served as President from 2010 to 2012. He was the University of Notre Dame Alumni Association Admissions Volunteer Coordinator for Syracuse/Central NY. He was a former coach, commissioner and board member of the Oneida Little League. He coached the St. Patrick's Crusaders basketball team for several years. He was a volunteer for the Oneida Pop Warner and a den leader for the Oneida Cub Scouts. He served on the St. Patrick's Church Finance Committee. He was a former assistant modified football coach for Christian Brother's Academy. He was the Chairperson of the CBA/Syracuse Lasallian Dinner and Auction and was a proud supporter of the Oneida City School Music and Drama Programs. He was also a member of Oneida Community Golf Club where he enjoyed the socializing aspect of golf. Bob was most happy with a baseball glove on his hand watching the Yankees, cheering on his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish, adopting Purdue and Villanova basketball, touring the Baseball Hall of Fame, and visiting the horses in the paddock at Saratoga racetrack. Surviving besides his loving wife, Angie; are his three sons, Steven Sayles, of New York City, Andrew Sayles, of Oneida, and Joseph Sayles, freshman at Villanova University; his siblings, Michael (Mary Lou) Sayles, of Sylvan Beach, Maria Lindstrom, of Mesa, AZ, Thomas (Zina) Sayles, of Miami, OK, Theresa (Jeffrey) Pole, of Ocala, FL, Dr. Lisa (Dr. Peter) Hogenkamp, Rutland, VT, and Timothy (Kristy) Sayles, of Charlotte, NC; his aunt, Judith Sayles, of Syracuse; his uncle, Jeffrey (Debra) Sayles, of Gastonia, NC; his in-laws, Tammy Bottini, of Sauquoit, Ralph C. (Laurie) Bottini, Steven (Jessica) Bottini, of New Canaan, CT, and Samuel (Jillian) Bottini, of Saratoga; his Godchildren, MaryEllen McDonald, Abigial Hogenkamp, Jack Schadl, Rori Sayles, and Greg Moyer; his best friends, John and Ellen Schadl; several nieces and nephews who all loved their Uncle Bobby; and many cherished friends. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Maria; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph Sr. and Kathleen Bottini; and a brother-in-law, Patrick Lindstrom. Bob's family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff, nurses, and doctors of Bryn Mawr Hospital and the staff of Gift of Life Organ Donation of Philadelphia for the kindness, compassion, and care shown to them during Bob's sudden illness. Bob was able to support several families whose loved ones are awaiting organ transplants by donating his organs through the Gift of Life Donor Program. His Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 121 St. Joseph's Place, Oneida, where the Rev. Christopher J. Ballard will officiate. Interment will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, March 16, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc., 342 Main St., Oneida. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob's memory to the Oneida Little League, PO Box 661, Oneida, NY, 13421, Spirit of Hope Parish, 121 St. Joseph's Place, Oneida, NY, 13421, or the Christian Brother's Academy Scholarship Fund to support the transportation needs of future CBA students, 6245 Randall Rd., Syracuse, NY, 13214.
