Sharon (Riley) Loomis
May 31, 1946 - January 12, 2025
FLORENCE, NY - Sharon (Riley) Loomis of Florence, NY passed away on January 12, 2025; with her loving family around her after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 31, 1946 at Scott Air Field, Illinois, the first child of James and Eileen (Cuddeback) Riley and grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She graduated from Green Bay West High school in 1964. On September 4, 1965 she married Richard Loomis of Florence, NY and moved with him to his various Navy stations. They settled in his hometown of Florence when he was discharged from the Navy. They bought an abandoned farm and built it into a successful dairy farm. In 1985 they sold that farm and moved to Wisconsin. She was proud of starting college at age 40, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1989 with a bachelor degree in Accounting and Tax. They moved back to Florence later that year and she started Loomis Tax Service. Her son Kevin joined the business in 2013 and continues it to this day. She also worked in offices at Laribee Wire and Camden Wire during the early years of the business and they always had at least some farm animals on the farm. She served on the Town of Florence Planning Board for over 20 years.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Brenda Loomis of Florence, Patricia and Eric Miller of Fairbanks, AK, Sara Spink, Taberg; a son, Kevin and Krista Loomis, Florence; a son-in-law, Scott Wendt (Suzann Hensley), Chittenango; 7 much loved grandchildren, Samantha Wendt, Dakota and Kolton Loomis, Egan and Rosalie Miller, and Sonya and Jenna Spink. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Kathleen and Robert Meissner, Santa Maria, CA, Linda and Robert Schweiner, Green Bay, WI and Bonnie and Robert Van De Hey, DePere, WI.; 5 brothers, Patrick and Norma Riley, Peter and Sue Riley, Daniel and Kathy Riley, Leo and Tammey Riley all of the Green Bay area and Bruce and Chris Riley of Naperville, IL.; 4 sisters-in-law, Debra Riley, DePere, WI, Mary McElligott, Churchville, NY, Cathy Loomis, Henrico, VA and Susan Loomis, Stamford, CT., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Richard in 2011, a daughter Barbara Wendt in 2007, a brother Michael Riley, her parents and parents-in-law, a brother-in-law Frank Loomis, brother-in-law Tim McElligott, sister-in-law Gordyne Loomis, and a niece Becky Riley.
As she wished, there will be no calling hours and services will be private at the convenience of the family. A celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in care of LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Camden, NY. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Florence Fire Department or a Food Bank of your choice.
