Stephen H. Romer

TOWN OF FAIRFIELD – Stephen H. Romer, 75, of Hardscrabble Road, passed away on October 3, 2025 at his home surrounded by family. Mr. Romer was born on November 10, 1949, in Canastota, a son of the late Eugene and Vera (Bliss) Romer. He graduated from Canastota High School and furthered his education at Morrisville State College. In 1969, he entered the U. S. Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War. He was a Purple Heart recipient and was honorably discharged in 1971 at the rank of Lance Corporal. On April 1, 1972, Stephen was united in marriage with the former Nancy L. Coleman in Whitelaw, NY. Stephen was a lifelong farmer, he loved cows and spending time in the woods. He also enjoyed fishing, collecting and shooting guns. He was a former member of the Vietnam Veterans of America. Survivors besides his wife of 53 years, Nancy, include four children, Earl Romer of Fairfield, Joseph Romer of East Greenbush, Jessica Grear of Murrieta, CA, and Erica (James) Sciscoe of Beaver Dams; ten grandchildren, Kayla, Ryan (Jaclyn) and William Romer, Jade, Carmen and Greysen Grear, Charlotte Romer, Vera Sciscoe, Eric Rende II and Cameron Henderson; a sister, Rebecca (Daniel) Kloss of Belchertown, MA; a sister-in-law, Margaret Romer of Canastota; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Stephen was predeceased by a brother Thomas Romer, and a granddaughter, Aria Grear. A private graveside service will take place at Middleville Rural Cemetery where Military Honors will be conferred by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard. A celebration of life will be held at the Fairfield Community Hall on Tuesday, October 7 starting at 2:30pm for friends and family. There will be no calling hours.
