Mr. Sylvester "Syvette" Hawkins

UTICA - Sylvester "Syvette" Hawkins, age 58, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 29, 2024, after a brief illness, surrounded by family and loved ones. Sylvester was born in Utica on November 15, 1965, one of six children born to the late William, Sr., and Annie L. (Robertson) Hawkins. He attended local schools and was a lifelong member of Peter Spencer UAME Church. After leaving high school, Sylvester joined the Armed Forces in the U.S. Navy where he took pride and served honorably. He was and always will be well loved by all whomever crossed his path. Blessed with a humble as well as jolly spirit, Sylvester could always bring a laugh, smile, and joy to the hearts of anyone. By the way, let it be known that he was the ultimate Pittsburgh Steelers fan, GO STEELERS! Sylvester was predeceased by his parents, William Sr., and Annie L. Hawkins; and brother, Alexander Hawkins. He is survived by his life partner whom he loved dearly, Margarita Acevedo; his brothers, William "June" Hawkins, Jr. (Luz), and Betaile Hawkins, Sr. (Constance); and sisters, Marie Collins (Michael), and Rachel Alexander (Kevin). Sylvester also leaves his children whom he loved dearly, daughters, Shauna Hawkins (North Carolina), Danielle, Chenita Hawkins (Mississippi), Lo'real Hawkins, and Sharie Hawkins both of Utica, NY; and sons, Sylvester Hawkins, Jr. (Mississippi), and Jayvian Hawkins (Tennessee); 3 grandchildren; goddaughter, Chy-Onna Hawkins; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, numerous cousins, and friends who will always love and cherish his memory. The blessing of Sylvester's presence in all our lives will be long lasting and truly be missed. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers of comfort. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Peter Spencer UAME Church, 841 Bleecker St., Utica.
