In Loving Memory
William R. Angell III
September 7, 1943 - October 1, 2024
CLEVELAND, NY - William Robert Angell III, age 81, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, in Syracuse, NY, surrounded by his loving wife and daughter. Born on September 7, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, William, affectionately known as Bill, lived a life dedicated to his family, his students, and his passions.
Bill earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Albany State University and a Master of Science in Mathematics Education from SUNY Oswego. For 38 years, he shared his love of numbers and learning with countless students at the Cicero-North Syracuse Central School District, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many.
An active member of his community, Bill was involved in several organizations, including the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Syracuse Chapter, and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Post 858 of Cleveland, NY.
Bill was a man of many talents and hobbies. He loved woodworking, creating beautiful stained-glass windows, and was an avid fisherman. He had a knack for fixing things, often "Billy-rigging" creative solutions to tackle repairs. He took great pride in maintaining his 300+ acre homestead, which was designated as an American Tree Farm. Bill found happiness in bird watching and served as a dedicated Loon Ranger, taking great joy in observing and protecting the wildlife on his land.
A passionate Syracuse basketball fan, he rarely missed a game. Bill also loved golfing and was a long-time member of the North Shore men's golf league, where he achieved the remarkable feat of hitting a hole-in-one, not once but twice during his lifetime. Bill's fondness for games and puzzles was a defining trait, and he relished spending hours playing cribbage, backgammon, and chess with his loved ones. Through these cherished moments, he passed on his love of learning, strategy, and friendly competition.
Bill was pre-deceased by his mother Alexandrine Angell, father William R. Angell Jr., sister Nancy Lynn Angell, and his dearest Aunt Eleanor Kinder.
He is survived by Carolyn J. Angell, the love of his life and his devoted wife of 57 years, and his children: Deborah L. Angell, William R. Angell IV and wife Jennifer, Thomas J. Angell and wife Vanessa, and Kristine A. Contento-Angell and husband Jason. He was the proud grandfather of Emily K. Felker and husband Gregory, Kai A. Contento, and Madison J. Contento, each of whom he cherished deeply.
Bill's legacy is one of love, dedication, and an enduring passion for life. His memory will live on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
