Cindy Wilkinson

After years battling a rare neurological disorder, on March 19, Cindy Wilkinson peacefully passed away at her home with her caring nephew and his wife by her side. Even though Cindy was born in Crawfordsville, her parents moved to Lafayette when she was still a baby. She lived the rest of her life within blocks of Columbia Park. Those who knew her would remember her as first and foremost a committed child advocate, having taught in the Lafayette School Corporation for most of her career. She had a positive impact on many generations of children and won an award for her commitment but more importantly was recognized by many of her students as they grew into adulthood. We also knew her, as did many others, for her commitment to local politics where she could be found working political events, staffing polling booths and advocating for causes she believed in. And of course, we all knew her for her love for sports in general but particularly Purdue athletics and the Chicago Cubs regardless of the seasonal win/loss records. March Madness will not be the same for her family and friends this year. If anyone is so inclined, she suggested you contribute in her name to either Planned Parenthood, a no-kill animal shelter or any progressive cause. She may have departed this life, but her legacy will live on for many years to come. A Memorial Service celebrating Cindy's life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at Fisher Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
