David Sowders Obituary

David "Dave" Randall Sowders, 73, of Brookston, IN, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025. He was born on September 27, 1951 in Lafayette to the late Doyle Dee and Mary Catherine (Sheets) Sowders. On November 22, 1975, in St. Lawrence Catholic Church David was married to Charlotte Brown. David graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School with the class of 1969. After high school David went on to earn his Bachelors degree from Purdue University in construction engineering. He was employed with Roger and Sons where he worked as an engineer and project manager. He previously worked for Robert E. McKey out of Houston, Texas and many others. He was proud of his biggest job, building Terminal D at Houston International Airport then years later remodeling Terminal B. He and his brother Duane were tasked with replacing all the windows in Ivy Tech's original building in Lafayette. He was a parishioner of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and a member of the Laborers Union. David enjoyed researching WWII, fishing, the great outdoors, and politics. Every Easter he looked forward to his county wide Easter Egg Treasure Hunt that he made for his family, he carried on the tradition from his mother but made it a lot bigger of an area. Surviving with his wife of 49 years Charlotte, is his children, Nicole (Joe) Mordenti and Adam Sowders, of Delphi; Brothers, Dana (Colleen) Sowders, of Crawfordsville and Duane (Beth) Sowders, of Lafayette; Sister, Debbie Kennedy, of Lafayette; grandchildren, Austin and Alex Sowders; granddogs, Rooster, Pockets, Whiskey, Luna and Sally; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Sister, Dawn Mincey and Brother-in-law's Bill Kennedy and Ernie Mincey. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025, in St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1916 Meharry St., Lafayette, Indiana. At 12:15 p.m., the Rosary will be recited. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m.with Fr. John Nguyen officiating. Burial will follow in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or Tunnels to Tower. To send flowers to the family of David, please visit our floral store.
