Donald Dyson Obituary

Donald Lee (Don) Dyson, age 74, of rural Crawfordsville, passed away at 2:38 PM Thursday, September 25, 2025, from complications of a heart attack he suffered two weeks prior, in Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born in Crawfordsville, February 27, 1951. He is the son of the late Roscoe and Margaret (Wilhite) Dyson. He married Teri Ann Furr at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Crawfordsville March 14, 1969. Don was a 1969 graduate of Fountain Central High School. In 1975 he graduated from Indiana Conservation Officer school at Pokagon State Park, and in the summer of 1977, he attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and became the Indiana Conservation Officer of Warren County. Throughout his law enforcement career, he became an investigator and part of several drug task forces. In 1995 Don transferred to become the ICO of Montgomery County, where he retired in 2006. He also served as town Marshall for both Wingate and Waveland. Don also served on the Montgomery County Sheriff Merit Board and, also a member of the Lion's Club. Don obtained his Broker license for Real Estate in 1991, and for Residential Appraiser in 1995. He worked for the Warren Agency in Williamsport, and as owner of Wabash Valley Appraisals, Crawfordsville. After retiring in 2006 from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, he started work for the Indiana Department of Transportation and later retired in 2017. Don and Teri loved to travel…they particularly enjoyed the 25 ocean cruises they set sail on. When taking short trips, Don liked to take the "scenic" route, even if it took more time. He enjoyed special time with his wife, grandkids and new great-grandbaby. He enjoyed the comradery with his friends. He enjoyed the wildlife, watching the birds in his backyard, and raising his Koi fish. Surviving, along with his wife Teri, are a daughter, Mackenzi Walters of Lafayette, two sons, Jeff Dyson of Nashville, TN and Travis Dyson of Lafayette. Grandchildren Tre Dyson and Ashleigh Dyson both of Lafayette, Zachary Easter of Terre Haute, Cody Easter and Bailey Walters both of Lafayette, Hayden Walters of Jamestown, and a great-grandson Theo Barnett, two brothers, John (Jane) Dyson and Darrell (Denise)Dyson both of Crawfordsville. He is preceded in death by his beloved sister, Judy Williams. Visitation hours are 4:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate.
