Edward Smith Obituary

Edward "Ed" L. Smith, 78, of Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Franciscan Health Hospital. He was born on July 20, 1947 in Lafayette to the late Kenneth and Jean (Griffith) Smith. After graduating from high school, Ed enlisted in the United States Air Force, and served his country honorably. Following his Honorable Discharge from the service, Ed worked various jobs as a laborer until he was forced to retire due to being disabled. Ed's greatest enjoyments came from being social, cooking great meals, being quite a jokester, and fishing or hunting any chance he could. Ed is survived by his children, Jason (Jennifer) Smith, and Jesse (Elizabeth) Smith; stepchildren, Andy (Amiee) Lester, and Laurie (Richard) Simmons; and sisters, Theresa Mounts and Beverly. He also leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren to cherish his memory. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald and Gordon. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16th from 12-1 p.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. at Hippensteel Funeral Home.
