James O. Powers

James O. "Jim" Powers, 91, of Lafayette, passed away at his residence on Thursday, September 25, 2025 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 19, 1934 in Harlan, Kentucky to the late John T. and Annie (Garrison) Powers. Jim graduated from Clearspring High School in Indiana, and then earned his Bachelor's Degree from IU Extension in Indianapolis. He enlisted in the United States Army, and following his honorable discharge, worked as a Cost Analyst Technician at Eli Lilly for 41 years. On January 11, 1980, Jim was married to Lynn (Iliff) in Lafayette, and she survives. They regularly attended Christ United Methodist Church. Jim was also a member of NOMADS. In his free time, Jim loved to travel, and also volunteering at Christ United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, Lynn Powers, Jim is survived by his children, Timothy Powers, Kelly Jarrett Pulliam, David (Nancy) Powers, Leigh Jarrett (Tim) Wilken, Sue Jarrett (Mark) Ehlers, Elizabeth (Kevin) Powers Loftus, Jon Jarrett, and Debra (Shawn) Powers Palin. Jim also leaves several grandchildren and great grandchildren to cherish his memory. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a son, Rick Jarrett; brothers, Leroy and Gene; and sister, Lucille. Private family services will be held at a later date.
