Janet Barker

Janet L. Barker, age 88, passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2025. Born on August 25, 1936, in Hartford City, she was the daughter of Hugh Raymond and Doris Monroe. On April 5, 1958, she married the love of her life, Eldon B. "Slick" Barker, and they shared 54 wonderful years together until his passing in 2012. A devoted homemaker throughout her life, Janet was known for her exceptional cooking, lovingly preparing meals for both her family and her community. She was one of ten children, with eight sisters and one brother. Janet found joy in life's simple pleasures-crossword puzzles, lottery tickets, IU sporting events, board games, leisurely strolls, scenic car rides, and birdwatching. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted believer in God. She was also an enthusiastic fan of country music, especially George Strait, Blake Shelton, and Reba McEntire. Janet cherished the companionship of her beloved cat, Bonnie, and will be fondly remembered for her warmth, generosity, and enduring love for her family. Janet is survived by her daughters, Teressa Wilber and Lori Barker; son, Timothy (Annette) Barker; and grandson, Jacob Cropper. She was preceded in death by her parents; eight sisters; one brother; and granddaughter, Heather Cropper. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Gardens of Memory. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Gardens of Memory, 11201 S. Marion Rd. 35, Marion, Indiana. Burial will follow.
