John Wills Obituary

John G. Wills, 94, of Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Creasy Springs. He was born on February 4, 1931 in Greeley, Colorado to the late Robert and Ruth (Stepp) Wills. John earned his PhD in Physics, and spent his career as a Physics Professor at Western Washington University and Indiana University in Bloomington. He was married to Beverly E. Howerton on June 18, 1954 in Chula Vista, California. Beverly preceded John in passing on March 23, 2019. John loved to travel, especially to Germany and New Zealand. He also enjoyed visiting the tulip fields in Washington with his wife, Beverly, as well as spending time at the ocean and hiking in the mountains. He was very proud of his profession and worked tirelessly to help his students gain a better understanding of Physics. More than anything, John loved raising his children and spending time with his great grandchildren. John is survived by his children, Debra L. (Ronald) Clark, Mechele E. (David) Peyton, Joanne C. (Alan) Holck, and Michael R. (Angela) Wills. He also leaves fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren to cherish his memory. In addition to his parents and wife, Beverly E. Wills, John is preceded in death by a daughter, Dr. Kristine Greene; sisters, Shirley and Olive; and brother, Robert. There are no services for John scheduled at this time.
